2 Facts About BAFFA Name: Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) Component: Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) is the single National Trade Organization of Freight Forwarders in Bangladesh. It has been formed through the unification of Association of Cargo Agents of Bangladesh (ACAB) & International Freight Forwarders Association of Bangladesh (IFFAB) as per decision of Ministry of Commerce to establish a single trade association of Freight Forwarders back in It has been a long journey of about seven years to accomplish the long cherished mission. During the course of this long journey, leaders of both the associations had to overcome various hurdles and perform number of great tasks to arrive at the present situation of unification in the name of BAFFA since the year License: DTO (Directors Trade Organisations), Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People s Republic of Bangladesh. 3 Main Objectives of BAFFA: 1. Since BAFFA is entitled to represent the both Air and Sea Cargo, Land and Multimodal Cargo Transportation industry in the country since the Year 2008, hence, in order to promote the Freight Forwarding industry at home and abroad, BAFFA is committed to play a vital and significant role to facilitate its member companies at all times. 2. To extend utmost co-operation, assistance and guide lines to ease the problems faced by its member companies with other steak holders and authorities involved with the trade. 3. Maintains closest cooperation with all agencies and authorities of Government in order to simplify the rules and regulations relevant to the industry. To keep the member companies informed of all Government decision/circular for their further course of action from time to time. 4. To improve the standard and facilities at Air Cargo Village at Airport (Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport). BAFFA to ensure disciplined cargo handling process, adopted thereof and monitoring the entire handling process at the cargo village for the greater interest of its member companies. 5. Acting as arbitrator to resolve the issues between members and its customers in both financial and legal issues also to extend support towards the members in order to resolve any complains, dispute, allegations, against any members by the customer or any other authority, or any member from time to time. 6. To extend educational and training program and seminars for the members in order to improve the human resource of respective member companies. 3

8 Board Meetings of the elected BOD of BAFFA: Board of Directors of BAFFA being holding the Board Meeting in every alternative months for discussing the issues needed to be resolved and to fix up the future plan to move forward upon having the consensus and consent of the Board in a regular manner from time to time, which giving a positive impact to the Freight forwarding community in the country. Issues Recently Tackled by BAFFA: Despite abnormal situation going on thorough out the country specially due to the political unrest during the past months, the existing elected BOD of BAFFA, have taken initiatives to handle/address a series of pending issues with various Government and other concerned authorities in order to resolve the same for the greater interest of the Freight Forwarding community in the country from time to time. The committee already has addressed some of the vital issues with various concerned authority during the period and have achieved a remarkable development. Construction of Canopy in front of Export Warehouse at Cargo Village Due to the active initiatives of BAFFA for having a standard cargo loading processing area within the Cargo Village, the CAAB (Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh) has completed the construction of a Canopy area in front of its Export Warehouse in order to protect the valuable export goods from any wet damage during its stuffing/loading thereon. BAFFA is going take control of said entire Canopy area in front of Export Warehouse for its proper utilization and in order to ensure disciplined cargo movement though out the export Air Cargo terminal at Airport. 8

BAFFA Member s Directory: A complete Directory of BAFFA has been published and distributed amongst the members and all concerned stake holders involved with the trade for their ready record and easy reference. BAFFA Membership being increasing: The Freight Forwarding trade is developing faster in Bangladesh, hence its being observing that, the Membership of BAFFA being increasing significantly. Presently BAFFA has 926 (nine hundred twenty six) ordinary members in the country and at least 18 (eighteen) applications are under process to be approved as the new member of BAFFA.
