3 4-H DARY GOAT PROJECT OBJECTVES The purpose of the project is to help 4-H Club members to: 1. Gain knowledge and skill in the principles of animal selection, breeding, feeding, management, fitting and showing, marketing, record keeping and business transactions. 2. Promote and develop leadership and desirable traits of character. 3. Conduct demonstrations. 4. Develop a greater love of dairy goats and experience ownership responsibility.. Contribute towards the improvement of the dairy goat industry and prof it by means of producing high quality dairy goats. 6. Enjoy the thrill and excitement of competiton. 7. Prepare for the future by developing into leaders and responsible citizens. REQUREMENTS 1. Be a member of a junior or senior 4-H Club.and attend meetings regularly. Also attend project group meetings regularly. 2. Follow the directions of the project leaders and Extension Agents. 3. Conduct a goat project. 4. Participate in activities and events related to the project.. Keep an accurate and up-to-date record book. 1

9 PRODUCTON RECORD The production record is kept on the following pages and should be filled out each month by following the instructions below. Column- following pages (1) Testing period--write in the month when fresh and then each succeeding month. (2) Pou.nd of milk--approximately the same day each month weigh the milk morning and night. (3) Pounds of nights' milk (to nearest 0.1 lb) (4) Pounds of mornings' milk (to nearest 0.1 lb) () The sum of (3) and (4) (6) The number of days of the month milked The record is started on the fourth day after kidding counting the kidding day as the first day. The first month after kidding is nearly always part of a month. (7) Multiply item () times item (6) (8) (a) Have milk tested at milk plant; or (b) test in an agricultural classroom; or (c) ask a DHA tester to test the milk (take 14 cup sample from each, the morning and the evening milking and mix thoroughly). (9) Multiply item (7) times item (8) (10) Use price per lb if sold or put a retail value on it if used at home (1 quart weighs 2 lbs). (11) Multiply item (7) times item (10) (12) Take from the total feed costs per month colunm on the year feed record. (13) Subtract item (12) from item (11). f item (12) is larger than item (11), item (13) will be entered--minus and place a ring around the minus sum.
