3 3 Creative Industries «The interface among creativity, culture, economics, and technology as expressed in the ability to create and circulate intellectual capital, has the potential to generate income, jobs, and export earnings while at the same time promoting social inclusions, cultural diversity, and human development» UNCTAD(2008) The Creative Economy
4 Project Rationale Potential of the sector for economic growth and development Evidence that some of the Region s subsectors, (craft, textile, household furnishings) can compete in niche market segments Existing programmes on the ground to build upon Serves a precursor to a larger 5-year initiative (EDF) Strong buy-in from regional and national stakeholders
5 Overall Project Objective Promote the Creative Industries sector as a viable contributor to CARIFORUM s export diversification and export growth goals.
6 6 Specific Objectives Build capacity among selected Micro, Medium, and Small enterprises (MSMEs) to respond to international market demands, particularly with regard to product design and development Enhance the capacity of Caribbean Export and national support institutions to provide improved services to the targeted subsectors within the CI sector Increase awareness of the CARIFORUM CI sector
