Rainfall onto flat roofs needs to be correctly managed to protect the structure against ingress of water. With our extensive range of FarBo and U-Flow products specifically designed for their application, FIXFAST are leaders in flat roof drainage systems and we have the expertise and ability on hand to meet and service the industry requirements. When water falls on a roof it is channelled in the correct direction this is the collection stage. The water is then removed from the roof area by the drainage outlets. These products are vital components of the whole drainage system. The efficiency of water management is greatly enhanced with the use of proven, reliable drainage products. The range of FarBo and U-Flow roof drainage systems is market leading with products covering most applications. When using flat roof outlets in both new build and refurbishment applications, it is critical to ensure that the seal is fail-safe and proven. In refurbishment applications, the stem of the outlet is inserted inside the existing pipework and the seal at the base of the outlet ensures that the area is protected from water backup. Water backup takes place when a blockage occurs within the main drainage pipework of the building. From the blockage the water backs up the pipe until it reaches the point where the outlet has been installed. The seal on the outlet provides a watertight connection at this critical point. This explains the importance of ensuring that the seal on the outlet is an effective one. The range of outlets stocked at FIXFAST all feature simple but proven and effective seals manufactured from high quality, durable material. In new build applications calculations need to be made to ascertain the amount of water that will need to be removed from the roof at any given time, dependant on the location of the building and other factors. 6 FarBo rainwater outlets are versatile and can be fitted into tight spaces and locations, which allows them to be used in most applications. FarBo s finished outlet has a very flush finish to it which minimises the risk of any ponding of the surface water. The outlets are supplied with the versatile O ring seal which reduces the risk of water ingress into the building. If a specific manufacturer s single ply is required, the outlets can be obtained on a special order with minimal lead times. 8 9

7 Code: FO-FLO FloDrain FarBo Rainwater Outlet The FloDrain outlet from FIXFAST is a versatile unit that is available in a large range of sizes for both new build and refurbishment applications. The large flange provides excellent coverage and is available in various waterproofing membranes to suit the relevant roof covering. This provides a great advantage for the contractor. The flange is connected to the FarBo rainwater outlets are a critical component of a watertight and functional roof spigot with a factory bonded seal which ensures a watertight connection. The heavy duty spigot is manufactured from corrosion resistant 0.7mm stainless steel and the O ring provides an excellent seal whilst still allowing for movement. 9 Code: FO-DUO DuoDrain FarBo Rainwater Outlet The DuoDrain outlet from FIXFAST consists of two parts. The lower outlet connects to the VCL to create an effective seal at this crucial interface. The upper outlet is a standard FloDrain which is fitted through the insulation and into the lower outlet creating a watertight connection. The lower outlet is available with either an SBS bituminous membrane or stainless steel flange. The SBS flange can simply be bonded to most bituminous VCL s and the stainless steel flange can be bonded to polythene VCL s using a butyl mastic. The large flange on the upper outlet provides excellent coverage and is available in various waterproofing membranes to suit the relevant roof covering. This provides a great advantage for the contractor. The spigot on both outlets is manufactured from heavy duty 0.7mm stainless steel. A variety of leaf guards are available for the upper outlet. 11 Code: FO-MONSOON- Monsoon FarBo Leaf guard Code: FO-CLICK- Click FarBo Leaf guard The Monsoon Leaf guard is a new development in stainless steel that has been designed to maximise the flow rates through standard sized drainage systems. This leaf guard is tamper-proof as it can only be removed with a spanner. This leaf guard provides a simple answer for applications where maintenance is required on a regular basis. It has a simple ratchet system that allows quick and tool-free removal of the guard. Manufactured from UV stable polymide. 12 Code: FO-WB- Wire Ball FarBo Leaf guard Code: FO-CG- Cylindrical FarBo Leaf guard The FarBo plastic-coated wire ball is an effective, yet economical leaf guard, which prevents debris from entering the roof outlets. The stainless steel cylindrical leaf guard is ideal for use in restricted areas and for ballasted roofs. The compact design also makes it suitable where there may be restrictions on the size of the leaf guard. Ten standard sizes are available from 50mm to 160mm; please specify size when ordering

14 Code: FO-RP-160/110 Reducer pipe It is sometimes necessary to use a larger outlet to increase the flow rates. This product allows a 160mm outlet to be reduced into 110mm pipework. Manufactured in stainless steel with a rubber seal insert, it provides a watertight solution. Code: FO-OF Overflow This stainless steel overflow ring can be inserted into an outlet either way up, to provide an overflow height of 25mm or 35mm. If a leaf guard is needed this product can be used in conjunction with the overflow Monsoon guard as shown on page 18. FarBo Accessories

Contact FIXFAST for more information. Regardless of the size of the roof area, there must always be a minimum of two outlets. As recommended by UK design standard BS EN : , with water depth of 35mm. The FarBo products require the minimum of maintenance, but periodic inspection is essential and should be carried out to ensure that the outlets are free from leaves, gravel and other debris which could impair the performance of the drainage system. Packaging and Storage All FarBo roof outlets are supplied individually. An outer box contains ten outlets and any accessories are packaged with the outlets. The boxes are clearly labelled with the product code and contents. Boxed outlets should be stored in a cool dry environment. The FarBo products are easily installed. Manufactured with the specific membrane already attached allows these products to be installed more efficiently and effectively. With the FarBo roof outlets, there must be a suitable clearance hole through the roof build up and deck to allow free passage for the outlet stem. It will be necessary to determine the distance between the finished level of the roof and the rainwater downpipe, to ensure the stem of the outlet is the right length to make a positive connection. In a refurbishment application, it is important to determine the inside dimension of the existing outlet or rainwater downpipe to ensure the correct diameter of the outlet is specified in order to achieve a positive seal with the sealing ring supplied. Full installation information is found on page 11. For all other FarBo products, it is important to establish the outside and, in some cases, the inside diameter of the protrusion. Once this has been done, the correct product can be selected and installed. A hole is cut through the felt or membrane and insulation and the outlet is installed. The outlet is secured to the roof deck by mechanically fastening the stainless steel flange via the holes. Heat is then applied around the flange to seal it to the existing felt of membrane. 42 The outlet is then fully integrated into the roof, unless a further cap sheet is required. 43

24 44 U-Flow Rainwater Outlets from FIXFAST These outlets feature a specially designed, extremely effective seal. The outlet body is a one piece spun aluminium unit and the curved turn-in at the top of the spigot enhances water flow. Roof outlets are a critical component of a watertight and functional roof. Water back-up due to blocked drains will cause permanent damage to the roof membrane, insulation, decking and the building structure. The fitting of a U-Flow outlet with its patented mechanical compression seal provides an excellent safeguard against this problem. There must be a suitable clearance hole through the roof build up and deck to allow free passage for the outlet stem. It will be necessary to determine the distance between the finished level of the (refurbished) roof and the rain water downpipe, to ensure the stem of the outlet is the right length to make a positive connection. It is recommended that U-Flow roof outlets are mechanically fastened through the flange into the deck substrate, prior to the waterproofing layer being dressed onto the flange. Proven and specified Rigorous testing of both the outlets and the seals has been carried out by the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC). The table on page 74 briefly describes these tests and gives results on U-Flow products. Specified and acknowledged by leading membrane manufacturers, U-Flow outlets have been successfully installed on numerous contracts, to the overwhelming satisfaction of the architect, engineer, contractor and building owner

26 Unique and patented U-Flow seal - proven and tested The unique U-Flow seal is specially designed to be very effective and easy to use manufactured from high quality EPDM together with tough, resilient nylon, this proven product will stand the test of time and give peace of mind to anyone who uses it. In the early 1980 s a roofing contractor was faced with numerous call-outs due to leakages on a flat roof. He discovered that the problem was due to the drains becoming blocked, leading to the water back-up spilling out through the unsealed outlet/downpipe connection. This led to the development of a patented mechanical compression seal and subsequent introduction of a wide range of innovative flat roof outlets. The perfect seal 48 49

28 Code: AH Aluminium Hercules U-Flow Rainwater Outlet Code: AR Aluminium Retrodrain U-Flow Rainwater Outlet Primarily designed for refurbishment applications, the Aluminium Hercules outlet has a one piece spun aluminium body which is 3.2mm thick and a heavy duty cast aluminium clamping ring, which suits most flat roof membranes and coverings. The outlet flange is extra large at 445mm diameter giving excellent coverage over old outlets and has a depressed sump area to facilitate maximum water drainage from the roof surface. 29 Code: AR-PVC Aluminium Retrodrain - PVC U-Flow Rainwater Outlet Code: ARO Aluminium Retrodrain - Offset U-Flow Rainwater Outlet The AR - PVC outlet has a one piece, spun aluminium body which is 1.6mm thick. The outlet has an extra large flange of 445mm diameter, which is PVC plastisol coated for the securing of PVC type roof membranes by heat or solvent welding. This outlet is supplied with our stainless steel Universal leaf guard. The special design allows this guard to be attached in a secure way and to only be removed with tools.
