2 STEPPING UP TO MANAGEMENT an online learning program from Harvard Business Publishing Is designed to prepare professionals for a management career path by developing transferable people management and leadership skills. Delivered online, the comprehensive program has an environmentally focused curriculum consisting of 8 targeted modules that are prioritized according to the employee s training needs and role requirements. WHY INVEST IN MANAGER TRAINING? Studies have shown that up to 40% of new management hires fail within their first 18 months. This failure is often due to a lack of training and support during the transition to a more challenging management role. The average organization is losing an amount equal to 7% of its annual sales because of poor leadership. That s more than $1 million dollars per year for an organization with $15 million or more in annual sales. As many as 90% of all managers fail to carry out their primary responsibilities: creating and implementing strategy and fueling innovation. Why? They lack focus and energy, avoid complex challenges in favor of busywork, and don t delegate effectively.

4 Curriculum Details PRACTICAL ADVICE, DOWNLOADABLE TOOLS & TIME-SAVING TIPS equip your employees to hit the ground running and get on the right track fast. Each module ends with an assessment to test participants on the material covered and verify that employees are ready to move forward. The modules your employee will participate in include: Understanding Your New Role: Participants discover management misconceptions, how to transition, and how to avoid common mistakes made by new managers. Working through Others: Learn to manage relationships, develop a management style, and build employee relationships based on trust. Managing Performance: Helps participants understand the importance of recognizing accomplishments, helping their employees grow and develop skills, setting objectives, delegating effectively, and coaching direct reports. Organizing Resources, Time & Meetings: Handle administrative responsibilities efficiently, hold meetings effectively, and manage time. Managing a Group: Discover the key elements of creating a high-performing team -establishing clear processes, clarifying communication standards, developing group norms and culture, protecting the team, and determining team performance measures.

6 Program Features Each module includes the following 6 sections: Overview: Introduction to topic, interactive activities, learning objectives and resources. Foundations: Foundational reading, based on learning objectives, external related articles. Activity: Video or case studies with corresponding questions. Tools: Downloadable tools and templates. Reflections: Guided process to track and go over key learning points. Action Plans: Downloadable templates to help put new knowledge into action. Each module offers a variety of templates and tools for day-to-day use. Time Commitment Participants have open access to all modules for a period of 3 months from registration. Each module takes an average of 2 hours to complete. Certificate of Completion Upon successful completion of Harvard s Stepping Up To Management Online Learning Program, graduates receive an official Certificate of Completion. In order to graduate and receive this certificate, participants must pass each end of module exam and complete all course materials.
