2 1.0 Introduction and Overview of OpenSesame Thank you for your interest in being a part of OpenSesame, the world s largest marketplace for buying and selling elearning courses. Sellers who offer content through the OpenSesame marketplace are given the opportunity to partner with some of the brightest minds in the elearning industry to distribute your content worldwide. OpenSesame can help you access new, profitable customer channels in our global marketplace. OpenSesame has built a large catalog of elearning courses, closed sales with Fortune 500 corporations and developed innovative models for selling and managing online learning content. As OpenSesame continues to flourish, we need to keep up with the requests of our buyers-- that s how our sellers become our most valued players. We want to work with you to sell your courses to a wide variety of corporate and individual buyers. OpenSesame has a proven business model, a successful founding team and a large, growing market: US companies alone spent more than $132B on training and development in This guide will show you how to sell your content on OpenSesame. You will learn how to o Create a seller account. o Upload your courses. o View your sales report. Feel free to contact support with any questions or concerns. 3 2.0 Uploading and Selling Courses on OpenSesame To start selling on OpenSesame, the first step is to create a seller account. You can do this on the OpenSesame website. 1) Go to 2) Click on Sign Up in the upper right-hand corner of the site. You ll be taken to the registration page where you ll see this box: 3) Complete the required fields and click Selling Courses and Create Account. 3
4 4) Complete your seller profile from the edit tab by populating your company bio, type of payment, company logo/image, and social media links. * *We highly recommend you populate these fields to make your seller profile complete. Domestic sellers must provide their mailing address to receive payment International sellers must provide a PayPal account to receive payment. Here is an example of a completed Seller Profile Page: Read Five Tips for a Captivating Seller Profile for more suggestions on creating a captivating seller profile page. 2.1 Adding Your Courses OpenSesame supports SCORM, AICC and Video files, with one file for each course. 1) Click Manage Your Courses > Add Course. 2) On this page, select a course file and enter course title, description, features, and price 2.2 Validating Test Courses After you add your courses, you need to validate and test each course in at least one browser. 4
5 1) Click Validate Course on the course page. Your course will pop up in a new tab. Click through the course and complete all the necessary criteria to send a complete status to the learning management system. Video files do not require validation. 2) Click Submit for Approval after the course has been successfully validated. Courses usually take 3-5 business days to add to the catalog after submission. We perform secondary technical tests and quality check every course. You will be notified when the course is published to the marketplace. 2.3 Bundles Bundles are a collection of two or more individual courses, sold in one package. Bundles make it easier for customers to purchase a curriculum. To create a bundle, contact a member of the content team with the title of the bundle, included courses, description, duration, categorization and pricing for each bundle you want to create. 2.4 Updating Courses Update your courses on OpenSesame when you add, update or remove courses from your own library. You can do this from your Seller Dashboard. 1) Click Update Course next to each individual course. 2) Change existing information (upload new file, price, discount structure, etc.) or if necessary, remove the course from the catalog. 5
6 3.0 Understanding Your Seller Dashboard Once you create your user profile and upload your courses, you can use your login information to access your seller dashboard. From this dashboard, you can view your account payment schedule, edit your profile, manage your account, and access your sales report. Click Edit to update your profile. Click Manage Your Courses to access your sales data. Click individual course titles to view sales by course. You may also add or update courses from this screen. Here is an example of a Seller Dashboard: 3.1 Sales Data Click Sales Report to view your monthly sales. From this report, you can view breakdowns by month of each line item sale. You can also see how much you will be receiving from OpenSesame in the next column. 6
7 3.2 Pending Payments OpenSesame will transfer your funds to you 30-days following the end of the month in which the sale occurred. OpenSesame transfers funds to sellers on the first of every month via check or PayPal. As a result, the current payment amount reflects the payment that will occur at the beginning of the next month and may be smaller than the full balance of funds owed to you. 4.0 Click Thru Agreement and Business Model When you register as a seller on OpenSesame you automatically agree to our seller terms. To learn more about our seller terms click here. OpenSesame operates on a revenue share business model. This means we operate under a 60%/40% split. 60% of every sale goes back to the seller and OpenSesame retains 40%. We do not charge any additional fees, including but not limited to: Initial Start Up Fee Bandwidth Fee Monthly Membership Fee Fees for Services Rendered (marketing, IT, ongoing account management) 5.0 Marketing and Promoting Your Courses OpenSesame uses a variety of sales and marketing initiatives to promote content. Direct Sales & Business Development. Our staff works directly with customers to recommend training solutions from our extensive marketplace. Search Engine Optimization 7
8 Social media outreach. We utilize social networks like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Quora, as well as have an active blog Course of the Week. Feature a course or bundle at a significant discount for the duration of one week. Targeted Marketing Campaigns. These include creative marketing approaches like blog posts, promotions, newsletters, featured sellers, and more. Contact the content team to learn more. Here are some more resources to further promote your content on OpenSesame: o Five Tips for Interesting Course Descriptions o Marketing Your elearning Courses 6.0 How Customers Purchase and Deploy Your Content Buyers can purchase courses in one of two ways: 1) ecommerce: The buyer shops the elearning marketplace and purchase licenses for only the courses they need. 2) Pay-Per-Use: The buyer shares their training objectives and the OpenSesame content team will create a curriculum of training courses to meet their goals. They then load course licenses into their LMS and connect their learners with a wide array of training content. The buyer is only billed for the courses they use. Buyers deploy courses from OpenSesame in one of three ways: 1. Online: Buyers can open and view purchased courses on the OpenSesame website. 2. CourseCloud : Buyers invite their employees to take purchased courses with a quick . From there they can track their progress and manage invitations in their OpenSesame dashboard. 3. In a learning management system (LMS). OpenSesame has developed patent-pending technology that ensures that content will work in any LMS.
