INTRODUCTION The purpose of this report is to discuss about the creation of our bridge that was created with spaghetti. INITIATING Integration 4.1 Develop Project Charter PROJECT CHARTER SPAGHETTI BRIDGE This Charter formally authorizes a project to create a bridge formed out of spaghetti. A project plan will be developed and submitted to the Project Sponsor for approval. Commencement of project activities will begin upon approval of the project plan and the resources to execute it by the Project Sponsor. Included in the project plan are to be a scope statement; schedule; cost estimate; budget; and provisions for scope, resource, schedule, communications, quality, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management as well as project control. The purpose of the Spaghetti Building project is to create a spaghetti bridge that is 1 meter in length and has a height of 500 mm. The bridge will be hung by a bucket of weights to test the strength of the bridge. This project meets CADD SQUAD for the purpose to create a bridge that is strong and efficient and has a low cost. The project deliverables shall include a completed bridge and a project management report. The Project Manager, Kabir Gill, is hereby authorized to interface with management as required, negotiate for resources, delegate responsibilities within the framework of the project, and to communicate with all contractors and management, as required, to ensure successful and timely completion of the project. The Project Manager is responsible for developing the project plan, monitoring the schedule, cost, and scope of the project during implementation, and maintaining control over the project by measuring performance and taking corrective action. A completed project plan will be developed and submitted to the Project Sponsor for approval by November 10, Upon approval of the project plan resources will be assigned to the project and work will commence within two days. Once the project commences, work on the project will be performed according to the schedule provided in the approved project plan. The Project Manager will obtain approval from the Project Sponsor for any schedule changes which impact the project completion milestone. The hard date we have for this project is November 10, The budget for the Spaghetti bridging project is $4690. It is to be funded through Gill Productions. 3

PLANNING Integration 4.2 Develop PM Plan In our Project Management plan we went over several designs of bridges. Below is a sketch of our original design of the bridge. However as the Project went along the bridge design changed as we went over several new designs. We informed the sponsor Joanne Massey to ensure that she was kept aware of the changes we made on the design of the spaghetti bridge. Given below are some sketches of our previous design 5

Scope 5.1 Collect Requirements Our project Manager Kabir Gill collected all the specified requirement such as the spaghetti, glue sticks, glue guns, labor, engineer of the bridge, and designer. Our group also managed to find a place to store our equipment as well as the bridge, ensuring that the equipment and resources were stored properly on a daily basis. Kabir Gill also used the method of division of labor to divide the tasks ensuring that each person was capable enough to complete their tasks. Jot collected information on the restrictions and limitations of the bridge such as the materials as well size limitations of the bridge. For example Jot examined the document that was made available to us from our sponsor that our bridge height should not exceed 500mm in height and maximum span of the bridge cannot exceed 1m. Also the distance between the top support of the bridge and the bottom of the bridge should be no bigger than 100 mm. 5.2 Define Scope When we were defining the scope we were faced with a lot of bridge designs. We used the internet to look up different designs keeping in mind the amount of material that we had to complete the design to the desired outcome. We searched designs that were fairly simple, modern but strong in the methods that they supported weights. We also looked at the Bridge Design pdf document which Joanne the project sponsor provided us with. We explored all sorts of bridges such as Beam Bridge, Truss Bridge, Arch Bridge, Cantilevered Bridge, Suspension 7
Bridge, and Cable Stayed Bridge. We used the combination of Arch Bridge as well as the Suspension Bridge to create our bridge. Below are some concepts of bridges that we used to come up with design of our bridge. We used some of the techniques and bridging styles that would accommodate for the stresses and loads of our spaghetti bridge. 5.3 Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) A work breakdown structure (WBS), in project management is a deliverable-oriented breakdown og a project into smaller components. A work breakdown structure is a project deliverable that systamizes the teams project into controlable sections. In the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) we broke down the time spent on each task by each member of the team. 8

Time 6.1 Define Activities The project manager Kabir Gill and Justin Maan defined the activities in the project which included, defining the workers Dennis and Josh. They were assigned to create the combination of ten pieces of spaghettis to create columns and beams. They were instructed to create larger columns and beams made out of 35 pieces of spaghetti. Justin and Jot were assigned to create different designs and sketches of bridges. The final sketch was discussed with the project manager and approved by the sponsor Joanne Massey. The project manager was told how much materials we would be using. Kabir then took the data regarding the information of materials, loads and stresses and finalized which materials and structures would best sit the project. 11
Jot and Justin gave step by step instructions on how to build the bridge. 6.2 Sequence Activities First, the project manager Kabir examined the different possible designs that were given by Justin and Jot Kabir then selected the best and efficient spaghetti bridge providing our workers and designers with the requirements (resources, material) needed to design the bridge. Jot and Justin discussed about the design and finalized a location to start the project with their workers. Our sponsor then provided us with a location as we were given specific instructions to keep the room clean Our workers Josh and Dennis were instructed to create specific column and beam widths Justin and Jot started to create the base support of the bridge which was 1m Kabir did regular checks, examining how much time was spent on each activity to find out how long the project would take. 12
We confirmed with our sponsor keeping in mind the instructions that were provided to our group through our sponsor We then started the major construction of our bridge. 6.3 Estimate Activity Resources The designs created by Justin and Jot were given to the project manager. The project manager analyzed the different bridges and selected the most suitable one. Then Jot and Justin explained the particular activities, techniques and skills that were required to build the bridge. Then the project manager allocated the resources such as materials and labor that were required to build the bridge. 6.4 Estimate Activity Durations The project manager provided us with the equipment and material to start the bridge. During the construction, Kabir estimated the time that was allocated to each activity and estimated when our project would be completed by. 13
