2 My presentation consists of two parts: - Biodiesel production (Surce: Agricultural Institute of Slovenia) - Biogas (Surce: Agricultural Institute of Slovenia)

3 BIODIESEL PRODUCTION 1 producer of biodiesel in Slovenia (PINUS RAČE) 9000 tons per year New factory in 2010 with the production of tons of biodiesel per year

5 Usage of biodiesel Up to 5 % of biodiesel in normal diesel fuel (without declaration) 1 filling station with 100 % biodiesel (B100) in Ljubljana, 400 l B100 per month (It was closed in August 2009)

9 Biogas from WWTP and landfill gas (Source: IJS-CEU, 2008) Six wastewater treatment plants (WWTP): Domžale- Kamnik, Kranj, Ptuj, Škofja loka, Velenje and Jesenice. Under construction are some new devices on central treatment plants. The total electric power is 2,1 MW. Three landfill sites of municipal waste - landfill gas: Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje. The total installed electrical power of all devices is 3,5 MW.

10 AGRICULTURAL BIOGAS PLANTS By the establishment of more appropriate purchase prices and premiums for qualified producers of electricity after 2002 the Government spurred the construction of agricultural biogas plants. In addition to slurry, they use other substrates, mainly energy crops that have a good recovery of methane or biogas.

11 The total electric power installed in cogeneration plants of agricultural biogas plants is 13.8 MW. The heat is used to heat the biogas plant (BP) and the nearby buildings, but currently it does not heat settlements. The last built BP is expected to emit the heat to nearby greenhouses.

12 Biogas plants must acquire the status of qualified electricity producers. Any such qualified electricity producer receives (received) the payment according to a single annual price of EUR per MWh of electricity produced. (old degree old system) He is (was) also entitled to a single annual premium, which is EUR per MWh of electricity produced. These figures are from for the year (old degree old system)

14 "The association of biogas producers" was founded in the 2008.

15 Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training, the central Slovenian institution dealing with development, research and counselling in the field of vocational and technical education prepared a professional standard module course Operator of biogas plant that would be taught in agricultural (biotechnical) schools. The choice of this module will be possible in the school year 2009/2010.

32 Statement of the operator (at the end of 2007): The option of biogas production from liquid manure in Slovenia has not been exploited enough so far. All the liquid manure ought to be included in the production of biogas. Positive experience gathered until now is a stimulation for a new investment construction of the next biogas plant in the surrounding of Lendava for which we have already collected the required documentation. The construction is planned for the year 2008.

35 Scenarios to calculate the potential - Scenario 1: The least interference with the primary agricultural production - Scenario 2: Increased livestock productivity and changes in dietary habits of people - Scenario 3: It is more advantageous for farmers to sell the plant biomass for biogas than for human food or animal feed

37 USE OF BIOGAS Currently, only to produce electricity and heat. It is possible to use biogas as a motor fuel in vehicles or in distribution of natural gas pipelines.
