2 VETS Veterans Employment Team SHRM-Atlanta VETS Veterans Employment Team SHRM-Atlanta SHRM Atlanta s objective is to hire 1000 Veterans as a direct result of this initiative The VETS initiative is three key activities: The VETS Panel The Career Coach Mentoring Program Future Train/Hire events (HR Helping Veterans) SHRM -tlanta s Value Proposition VETS will leverage SHRM-Atlanta members and member s organizations to serve Veterans in their career search by preparing SHRM-Atlanta HR Professionals to be more effective in the recruiting, selection, mentoring, hiring, on-boarding and employment of Veterans and their family members

3 Purpose of the Panel discussion provide SHRM HR Professionals with the information, insight and inspiration to help Veterans return to work Issues and questions to be addressed by Panelist: How to establish, organize and operate a company/organization Veterans reemployment program Understand the Veteran s career search from a Veteran s point of view Understand career search issues related to differently-abled Veterans Understand two programs and services Veterans use during career search; the Transition Assistance Office and the Department of Veterans Affairs Gain knowledge about Veterans Employment programs and information offered by SHRM Atlanta and SHRM National Understand and have the opportunity to become a Mentor to a Veteran in career search and to participate in a formal Mentoring preparation and training program

10 VETS Panelists A n Atlanta HR Executive who is leading a company Veterans hiring initiative. Rich Delnero, Human Resource Business Partner at Scientific Research Corporation will provide information about setting up and running a Veterans hiring program. The executive will highlight their program, discuss why the company established the program, the goals of the program, how the program is currently working and lessons learned. A recently separated Veteran who has successfully returned to civilian employment; Dr. George Monk and a recently separated Veteran will share their experience with participants so HR professionals can gain an appreciation for the challenges Veterans face and to gain insight on how they might help Veterans who are in active career search. A Georgia State Veterans Administration leader; Tommy Clack, GA Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Service Officer, combat wounded Veteran and Chairman of the Walk of Heroes Foundation, will provide information to HR professionals about current VA programs and future initiatives and how the VA can support and provide services to HR professionals who are actively seeking to employ Veterans. A military services Transition Assistance Officer; Edwin Perez, TA Officer will provide information to HR professionals about the military s TAO program and how TAO s can support and provide services to HR professionals who are actively seeking to employ Veterans. John Kalusa, SHRM Atlanta VETS (US Navy Reserve Retired Veteran) will provide an overview of the SHRM Atlanta VETS initiative with a focus on the two programs that will directly support the objective of hiring 1000 Veterans in 2012 the VETS-HR Mentoring program and future SHRM sponsored marquee event(s) to train SHRM HR professionals and connect career-seeking Veterans with SHRM employers. Stu Smith, SHRM Atlanta Board Member VETS (US Army Veteran) will moderate the panel.
