3 Alignment of egb s Mission with DESA/DPADMs Vision and Mission DESA s Vision and Mission DESA s mission is to achieve development for all by helping countries across the globe to meet their economic, social and environmental challenges. DPADM s Mission It assists the Member States of the United Nations in fostering efficient, effective, transparent, accountable, clean and citizencentered public governance, administration and services through innovation and technology to achieve the internationally agreed development goals including the MDGs egb s Mission Supports Member States in developing and least developed countries to build capacity in the area of innovation, e/m-governance and transformational government to promote economic, social and environmental development, in line with the overall mandate of UNDESA and the Division s mission.

6 Support to Inter-governmental Process and Normative Work egb is providing support to the preparatory work of the 12 th Session of the UN Committee of Experts on Public Administration through substantive inputs egb is providing support to the UN Task Team on Post-2015 development agenda

8 Analysis and Research (ctd.) UN e-government Survey 2014 Translated into two official languages Arabic and Chinese. Spanish is forthcoming. Innovative Team Structure from as UN Updates (1) The data team consists of an overall coordinator and four data team coordinators (2) 37 graduate students in public administration Columbia University, St. Francis College, NYU Volunteers and interns (1) 177 of the 193 official languages are covered (2) By 15 April all languages are expected to be covered

UN e-government Survey 2014 Coordination and Training Activities: Meeting with all researchers was held on 3 March: Overview, scope, process and timeline Inter-branch meeting with team members to provide overall framework of data team Outreach to Permanent Missions to the United Nations and CIOs world-wide Training on past experience and online platform Coordination Meeting of data team coordinators on tips, process and timeline 4 Training sessions held by data team coordinators for researchers 4 Phases: Pilot Phase I will be concluded 30 April

14 Africa Co-organization of the 7 th Annual e-gov Africa Forum in Uganda March 2013 Participation in the UNDP-sponsored Global Thematic Consultation on Governance, 28 February 1 March 2013, Johannesburg, South Africa Research on e-government institutional frameworks and strategies in Africa is ongoing (UNPACS)

15 Arab States Organization of Pre-Summit Workshop, 3 workshops and a Ministerial Round-Table on Innovation in Public Governance within the framework of the Government Summit 2013, Dubai, UAE, February 2013 As follow-up to the above Summit, egb received a request to provide support to build capacity in the Arab region in the area of innovation and e-government New project to support e-government development in Qatar; Morocco approved a draft project document, final version will be followed along with the Trust Fund Agreement Research on e-government institutional frameworks and strategies in Arab States is ongoing (UNPACS)

16 Asia and the Pacific UNPOG s Steering Committee was held in March 2013, New York egb agreed to future collaboration with ESCAP to develop e-governance in the region Research on e-government institutional frameworks and strategies in Asia and the Pacific is ongoing (UNPACS)

17 Highlights on 2013 UNPOG s Activities Request to support Afghanistan in E-Government development, as well as post-conflict countries E-Procurement Repository of Good Practices and request for support by Georgia and other countries Publication on Gender Mainstreaming entitled: From Promoting gender equality to empowering women: role of e-government in Asia and the Pacific Research on ICT-Enabled Local Community Development Research and Small Islands Developing States (SIDS). 17

18 Europe European e-government Conference, Finland, May 2013, organized by the European Commission, Finland and DPADM First time DPADM collaborates with the European Commission in organizing an event Cost-effective partnership: egb only funds 18 participants from developing countries egb organized in March 2013 an In house Seminar on European e-government Benchmarking Research on e-government institutional frameworks and strategies in Europe is ongoing (UNPACS)

19 Latin America and the Caribbean New Capacity building project to support Colombia and Costa Rica in the area of e- Government development Panama invited UNDESA/DPADM to help in developing their online platform Meeting of Chief Information Officers to enhance e-government practices in the region

20 The Way Forward (1) Continue to strengthen the holistic and integrated approach of egbs activities and inter-branch collaboration (1) Strengthen collaboration with other DESA Divisions to ensure coherence of action in support of Member States and to promote effectively the UN development agenda (2) Increase the alignment of egbs activities with the outcomes of inter-governmental processes in the areas of economic, social and environmental development
