Creating and nurturing culture that drives these employee qualities should be top of the list of goals for any organisation, but the challenge for leaders is to know what to do, and where to start doing it. Our participating organisations are quite different, but they all have one thing in common: strong, evident culture that has enabled them to achieve remarkable and unusual successes. Rovos Rail is best known as a family-run luxury train service operating from a private station in Pretoria, which has earned a global reputation for quality and service. But it s also a multifaceted operation populated by craftsmen, engineers and service personnel, all dedicated to a single set of unrelenting Values. In order for this operation to maintain a standard of excellence, leaders and employees rely on an unusual level of trust, personal responsibility and ownership. Join us as we find out how.
4 Who should attend? Senior business leaders who are interested in organisational culture and its ability to build better engagement among employees. You will enjoy significant interaction with the most senior thought leaders of our host companies, so this is an opportunity suited to those right at the top. Don t let that stop you however if you re a small business owner, or senior leader of a smaller organisation. The criteria should be the level of decisions you are tasked with making, not your job title or the complexity of your balance sheet. When is it? June 20 and 21, (Tuesday and Wednesday), with two 2-hour sessions on either side, June 13 and June 27. To get the greatest benefit, you should do all of these sessions, so please plan for that. Who are we going to learn from? In order, the organisations we are going to visit are Rovos Rail, Nando s, Striata, and King Price Insurance. Each of these remarkable organisations has been selected for their unusual cultural characteristics that have played a significant role in their great success. What should you bring? Your curiosity, a pair of comfortable shoes mostly your curiosity. We ll lay on everything else you ll need. King Price Insurance in Pretoria this company has rewritten the rules on how an insurance contact centre is supposed to look and how a financial services organisation is supposed to feel, sound and even smell (think popcorn machines on every floor). But while it has effectively taken the playground within founder and CEO Gideon Galloway s head and brought it to life, it remains a fastgrowing, target-smashing company built to deliver performance for employees, leaders and investors. The days will be full of practical lessons you can implement immediately. You will be joined by up to 17 other like-minded business leaders, who have experienced many of the same challenges as you and have some interesting solutions. You ll spend two days together, plus preand post-culture Experience sessions with non-stop interaction so this is an opportunity to form new relationships. You ll have the time of your life. Really. Transportation to and from the host companies on each day. All tours, senior executive Q&A sessions and presentations. A pre-culture Experience session designed to position culture and the way South African companies have built it, and to learn your areas of interest so we can prime our host companies. A post-culture Experience round table session designed to capture the broad learnings achieved by each member of the group to maximise the shared experience. 7 How is the course structured? The three components to the Culture Experience are as follows: 1 Pre Culture Experience Session: 2 hours: June 12: 14h30-16h30 Introduction to the Culture Experience, positioning of culture and the Happy Sandpit research findings; setting of expectations and discovery of specific areas of interest. 2 Culture Experience Days: Full Days: 08h30-16h30 Immersive two-day experience including company tours, presentations and Q&A sessions with senior executives at our host companies about organisational culture, employee engagement and leadership.
