Good understanding of requirements of the European & International Markets, having visited and interacted with Staff of the Major Supermarkets in Europe for more than 15 years. 4
5 Profile -Maina Karuiru 18 years in the Horticultural and Agribusiness Industry in Kenya Been a Director both at KHE(1977) Ltd and FPEAK.{Fresh Produce Association of Kenya} Trainings in UK, Belgium, Hungary, and Israel on top of the local trainings in Kenya. 5

7 What is Global Gap? Global GAP stands for Global Good Agricultural Practices. Global Gap integrated Farm assurance (IFA) Standard covers the certification of the whole agricultural production process from when the plant is in the ground( origin and propagation material control points) or from when the animal enters the production process - livestock 7

Global Gap integrated Farm assurance (IFA) Standard covers the certification of the whole agricultural production process from when the plant is in the ground( origin and propagation material control points) or from when the animal enters the production process livestock. It is owned by Food PLUS Based in Cologne Germany 8
9 What is Global Gap? Global GAP has 2 Options for certification option 1 : Independent producer /Farm. Each producer conducts a self-assessment based on the GLOBALGAP standard and is inspected annually. option 2 : producer groups ( small scale growers). Certification covers production sites &packing facilities 9
10 Importance of Global Gap Certification Allows you to export fruits and vegetables to EU and other countries & is recognized world wide. Protection of the environment, which is key to sustainable agriculture. Reducing food safety risks in the production process. Social protection, safety and health of the workers 10
11 Based on Global Gap version 5 effective 1 st July 2016 Global Gap Checklist has 3 main sections namely Scopes Modules. QMS (Quality management system) 11
12 How is the audit done and how long does it take? The auditor takes the square root for the no of farmers registered for audit. E.g 50 =8 will visit 8 farms during audit. The standard allows 4 farm visits per day. 1-2 days for documentation audit depending on the number of farmers per group / Farm 12
