1 Cape town Project (Sport and development) Rehabilitation and re-grassing of existing soccer sports field Technical specifications A New sods: Area 45x90=4050 m² Design: NY 49 Sports Complex The facility consists of: soccer fields, change rooms and cricket pitch
2 The contractor is to allow for the training of two (2) City of Cape Town officials (grounds men) during the course of the maintenance period. The contractor will teach and guide them through the process of maintaining the fields. Specifications Maintenance to Fields Watering of fields Watering must be undertaken on a daily basis during the week - unless sufficient rain falls. The whole area should be watered once per week. The Water Act must be complied with and can be changed from time to time. Bearing this in mind it may be required that in order to complete the watering programme that staff could be required to work a type of shift work by starting earlier and finishing later especially if- due to restrictionswatering is not permitted between certain hours. Watering equipment will be supplied by the COCT. The equipment varies in type eg permanent system- water canon- irrigation pipes. COCT would be required to maintain the permanent irrigation system when required. COCT would need to clean and adjust sprayers as and when required. Materials such as sprayers, valve boxes, valves- would be supplied by the COCT- City of Cape Town.
3 Breakages and repairs of such irrigation equipment or any other damage howsoever caused to Council property during the contract period will be repaired or replaced by the Contractor and will be for the Contractors account. Should the Contractor fail to repair or replace the damaged property the City of Cape Town will take the necessary steps to replace or repair said damaged property and recover these costs from the Contractor by withholding the required amount from the monthly payment. Soccer field. Playing surface to be mowed twice a month or every two weeks at a cutting height of between mm with a blower mower. Fertilizer application x 2. Use granular fertilizer at a rate of 25g/m2 Incidental spraying for any weeds and fungicides. Re sodding of bare patches Light top dressing of uneven areas Goal posts to be kept level and in a position that is satisfactory to Council and according to SAFA regulations. Goal posts to be removed at the end of the soccer season. Contractor to: Transport rollers between sites. If the roller breaks down, the contractor has to source a roller. Supply field cutter and other relevant implements needed to carry out maintenance; SOFT LANDSCAPING SPECIFICATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SPORT FIELDS USING NEW GRASS SODS. To be read in conjunction with the Bill of Quantities related to soft landscaping. All aspects associated with the handling of plants to be carried out by a landscape contractor registered with SALI, and trained staff. Method: Rotavate areas with a tractor drawn rotavator implement to a depth of 250mm. Laser level playing surface area with laser guided equipment to agreed surface drainage fall. The recommended shape is a turtle back design falling at 0.5% to the outside of the field for all soccer and rugby fields. Allow for the aerating of the field/s to a depth 200mm by means of solid types or verti drain machine or as is approved by the Project Manager. Allow for 2 earations. Supply and spread good quality medium compost (approved by the proj.manager). 100m³ per standard soccer field. Supply and spread Neutrog Bounce Back (a pelletized organic fertilizer) at a rate of 100g/m².
4 NEW SODS: If sods are brought in by means of which they contain nylon netting often used to simplify transportation- this netting must be removed prior to the sods being laid. Supply Specialist material for placing of new Kikuyu grass sods or alternatively with Golfing Green grass, for new fields and new grass areas. Once the grass is established, top dress, as below Edges must but-up together. At least 3 fertilizer applications should be allowed for. An additional two fertilizer applications of should be applied at intervals of 1 month each. Roll the area with a light polishing roller. Additional 100m³ meters of a weed free soil /compost mixture type final topdressing per field be allowed for. The soil to be properly leveled out over the field my means of a blade or a drag bar. This is to even out any marks etc left by machines etc or any other level problems that may arise. Herbicide spraying of the fields for weeds which may emerge must be allowed for and applied at the rate as recommended by the manufacturer. Allow for two applications. Where weeds cannot be sprayed- for whatever reason they would have to be removed by hand. A weed control specialist must be consulted and employed to undertake the spraying operation. Install sprinkler heads and test irrigation system. All sprinkler systems must be fully functional and in proper working order at the time of handover. Moles- which can be a large problem in some areas must be controlled by the successful contractorshould it be required Regular soil tests should be taken to ensure that the correct fertilisation program is carried out. Grass matting should be avoided and always controlled by vertical cutting. Length of grass should never be longer than 15 mm when played on. At time of hand over the field should be in level and a well grass- covered condition of at least a 80 90% grass - which will be to the satisfaction and at the discretion of the Project Manager / nominated Council Official. As specified in SABS 1200 C and in the project specification. Earthwork Clear and Grub Clear site of all rubbish, bushes, shrubs and small trees N.E 200mm girth Public open areas (including removal of rubble on surface) will be addressed at date of site inspection to an approved dumping site. Size (45 x 90) =4050m2
5 Cart-away Surplus excavated material to be carted away into a local dumping site. Size (4050m2 x 0.10m) = 405m3 Soft landscaping Preparation Spray existing grasses with round up. (45x91m)=4050m2 Rotavate area with a tractor is drawn rotavator to a depth of 200mm. Drag rip and remove dead grass sods left in the profile. Size: 4050m2 Laser level playing surface area with laser guided equipment to agreed surface drainage fall. The recommended shape is a turtle back falling at 0.5% to the outsides of the field. Size: 4050m2 Supply and lay grass Supply and spread shredded kikuyu grass. This grass must be per kikuyu and free of weeds. 25% of the total area 4050m2 is used for full sods. The full sod need to be shredded to a fine consistency and spread evenly throughout the field. Size: 4050m2 Supply and spread Neutrog bounce back (a pelietized organic fertilizer) at a rate of 100g/m2. Size: 4050m2 Turn the grass, fertilizer and compost in with a tractor drawn rota dairon Implement. Size: 4050 m2 Weed free soil/ compost mixture type final topdressing per field be allowed for.
