Evolution of the Chinese bioindustry and its policy support Marked the beginning of the modern bioindustry in China In 2006, development of bioindustry became one of the top priorities for the Chinese economy
Current status of the bioindustry The total output value of China' s bioindustry in Trillion RMB annual growth rate of 22.9% (56.9 trillion GDP in 2013, 3.5%) The total output value of China's bioindustry was expected to hit: RMB 4 trillion (US$ 630 billion) by the end of 2015 RMB 8 trillion by the end of 2020 RMB 16 trillion by the end of Chinese bioindustry is mainly classified into seven major fields: Biomedicine Biomedical engineering Bio-agriculture Bio-based manufacturing Bioenergy Bio-based environmental protection Biotechnology service
Fields Subdivision of the bioindustry and the expected annual output value by the end of 2015* Biomedicine Biomedical engineering Bio-agriculture Subdivisions Biotechnology medicine Chemical medicine Traditional Chinese medicine High-performance biomedical instruments Biomedical materials Novel diagnostic products Bio-breeding Agro-bioproducts Marine bioresources Output value (RMB billion) 2,100 Bio-based products including bio-based materials Bio-based manufacturing Bio-based chemicals and bulk fermentation products Green bioprocesses 750 Biomass electricity Bioenergy Biogas & biofuel Biomass pellet 150 Bio-based environmental protection 150 Biotechnology services 150 Total 4,
Patents in Chinese biotechnology from 2006 to 2015 In 10 years since 2006: the number of biotechnology patents has continuously increased the applied for and approved patents reached 22,193 (25.46% of global ones) and 10,394 (21.28%) both ranked the second in the world China's share of patents in the global biotechnology field also increased continuously
China's innovation capacity in the fields of life sciences and biotechnology is continuously increasing In 2015, publications from China reached 87,765, second only to USA The rank of publications from China in the world Till now From 2013 to 2015, the output value maintained an average annual growth rate of over 20% In 2010, the biological industry was listed as a strategic emerging industry, which marked the beginning of its rapid development the 2th in the world the 2th in the world In 2010, Decision of the State Council on Accelerating the Fostering and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries was formally issued the 4th in the world the 8th in the world 2006 In 2006, The State Council issued the National Medium and Long-term Program for Science and Technology Development ( ), in which biotechnology was one of the important development directions
Biomedicine Gross industrial output value (RMB 00,000,000) Gross output value of national medical and pharmaceutical industry from 2007 to Year Data source: (1) South Medicine Research Institute, 2014, Blue Book on the Development of China's Medical and Pharmaceutical Market in 2014; (2) Health Wealth Forum on China's Medical and Pharmaceutical Industrial Chain in From 2007 to 2014, the gross output value of medical and pharmaceutical industry stably grew in China Reached RMB 2, billion in 2015, increased by 9.0%, higher than the national industrial growth rate 8.2%
Biomedical engineering The sales of medical devices in China have continuously increased and reached RMB 308 billion in 2015, almost 6 times the amount (RMB 53.5 billion) in 2007 High-performance Biomedical biomedical instruments materials Novel diagnostic products The sales of medical devices in China have continuously increased and reached RMB 308 billion in 2015, almost 6 times the amount (RMB 53.5 billion) in 2007 China's the market sales amount in 2020 will be US$ 120 billion, become the second biggest market of biomedical materials, accounting for 22% of global market. China has now become globally the largest emerging market for in vitrodiagnostics. The market scale is predicted to be about RMB 38.4 billion in 2018, with a compound annual growth rate of 17%
Bio-agriculture biological breeding The Chinese government listed transgenic breeding technology in the National High Technology Program, National Basic Research Programme for R&D support high-quality farm-oriented biological products Biological feeds Over 1,000 enterprises in China are dedicated towards production and processing of feed additives the bio-breeding industry has been listed as one of the Strategic Emerging Industries. Biological Pesticide Till the end of 2015, China had registered 3,435,417 different pesticides, 4,293 (with antibiotics) biological pesticides involving 112 active ingredients During the 12th "Five-Year Plan", China had obtained 137 critical genes with great breeding values, 1,036 patents, and a series of notable achievements including insect resistant cotton, insect resistant maize, and herbicide-resistant soybean Veterinary biological products By the end of 2015, China had registered 4,293 biological pesticides involving 112 active ingredients
Bio-based manufacturing bio-based products bio-based materials bio-based chemicals bulk fermentation products green bioprocesses From the 12th "Five-Year Plan", the Chinese biological fermentation industry generally maintained a stable developmental trend. The output of major bio-fermented products: million tons million tons amino acid: 3.7 million tons organic acids: 2.1 million tons Starch: 12 million tons enzyme products: 1.2 million tons fermented yeast: 0.32 million tons functional fermented products: 3.4 million tons
Bioenergy China is the third biggest country in the world producing and utilizing bioethanol, second only to the USA and Brazil. 研究 The bioethanol yield in 2014 in China was about 2 million tons China's biodiesel industry is in the growth phase the total capacity of biodiesel: million tons In 2014, COFCO and Sinopec group had developed the whole set of production technology of cellulose ethanol by using various raw materials with a yield of 50,000 tons every year. Shandong Longlive Biotechnology invested to construct a project to comprehensively utilize 0.4 million tons of straw, which would produce 30,000 tons of cellulose ethanol every year. Heilongjiang Jianye Fuel and Denmark Biofuel Technology cooperated to construct a large comprehensive utilization and processing base for straw, which would produce 300,000 tons of cellulose ethanol with straw every year.
Bio-based environmental protection Output Values of Environmental Protection Industry in China in Till 2015, annual output value of biological environmental protection reached RMB 150 billion OUTPUT VALUE (RMB OOO BILLION) Output value (RMB OOO billion) Development of biological environmental protection industry in China has the following 3 characters: 1. Environmental protection industry is continuously increasing 2. Biological environmental protection technology and products continuously improves 3. Environmental service industry develops relatively quickly
Biotechnology service In 2015, annual output value of biological service industry reached RMB 150 billion. CRO industry CRO market CMO industry started relatively late WuXi AppTec, Shang Pharma, Tigermed, and Boji Pharmaceutical marking the gradual rise of the industry the CRO market value in China was only RMB 4.8 billion in 2007 and about RMB 38 billion in 2015 CMO industry in the development phase The market value will be over RMB 30 billion in 2017 The average annual growth rate 17.4% from 2012 to 2017
