2 FULL-SERVICE BIG DATA IN THE CLOUD, a fully managed Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark cloud offering, form the cornerstone of many successful Big Data implementations. Enterprises harness the performance and reliability of Big Data services to collect, store, process, and analyze their data at scale. Organizations can optionally customize their Big Data services environments with additional SAP and open-source technologies, to achieve advanced data management and broader analytics capabilities. EASILY ACQUIRE DATA FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES Real value in Big Data lies in being able to combine enterprise data with data from the external, digital world, in order to derive richer, more meaningful analyses. To facilitate data acquisition, provide users multiple options for data ingestion from business applications as well as external data sources. Open-Source Data Ingestion Tools support open-source ingestion tools, such as Apache Hadoop Distributed Copy (DistCp) and Apache Sqoop, to transfer data from cloud object storage, other Hadoop clusters, and relational databases to the SAP environment. Users may also ingest data into Big Data services using stream processing systems, such as Apache Kafka. SAP Data Services SAP Data Services can be used to move data from business applications, such as ERP systems, to SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services. SAP Data Services can cleanse and transform data before moving it to Big Data services. SAP Data Services connect to several sources, including databases, applications, files, and mainframes, can also understand context in 31 languages, extract context from text or binary file types. 3 REFINE RAW DATA large-scale storage and computing infrastructure means the services are a natural choice for ingesting, storing, and refining terabytes to petabytes of structured and unstructured data in the same location. When used in conjunction with SAP HANA, SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services act as a data refinery, cleansing and transforming raw data before it is surfaced through SAP HANA for further, more detailed analysis. Analyzing the refined data using SAP HANA allows users to leverage a proven in-memory data platform, and exploit its high performance and concurrency for low-latency analytics. Seamless integration between SAP HANA and SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services is achieved through SAP HANA smart data integration (SDI) and smart data access (SDA). SDI enables data movement between Big Data Services and SAP HANA, so that refined data can be brought into SAP HANA for querying. SDA allows data in Big Data services to be queried from SAP HANA without moving the data, by using virtual tables. 4 SECURE AND GOVERN BIG DATA Most data professionals consider that data security and governance are critical aspects of their Big Data implementation. SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services provide enhanced data security and governance using a combination of Kerberos for strong authentication, as well as data encryption, and role-based access control. Big Data services also integrate with SAP Information Steward, so users can perform data profiling, and trace the lineage of their business data. GET TO POWERFUL INSIGHT QUICKLY Combining business data with external data allows data scientists and analysts to extract valuable insights from a rich confluence of data sets. Open-Source Analytics Capabilities offer enterprises access to open-source software, like Spark, and its machine learning capabilities, for analytics. Users may perform various data science tasks through an interactive notebook environment, such as the Jupyter Notebook. SAP Predictive Analytics SAP Predictive Analytics users can build predictive models employing the power of distributed processing on Hadoop and Spark. SAP Predictive Analytics includes capabilities to automate data preparation, predictive modeling, and deployment. Users can also easily retrain models and make use of advanced visualization to quickly reveal insights. SAP Business Intelligence Solutions offer standard JDBC/ ODBC connectivity. Users may connect any application which allows connectivity through a JDBC or ODBC interface to Big Data services in order to analyze data or create dashboards. SAP business intelligence solutions, such as SAP Lumira and SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, can work with Big Data services through Apache Hive JDBC/ODBC drivers. With SAP Lumira, users can visualize data through interactive maps, charts, and infographics, while SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence enables users to get quick business insights and understand key trends and root causes. These web-based ad hoc reporting and analysis tools make it easy to uncover fast, decision-ready business intelligence from SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services. Analytics Through SAP HANA Data held in can be made more accessible to a greater number of users by setting up SAP HANA as a central access point. This enables organizations to make new, external data sources accessible to non-technical users using familiar tools and applications, and reuse existing investments in the SAP HANA ecosystem. 4
