1 2003 Pre-Conference Training Classes BBj and OSAS Bring your laptop to this hands-on class, which covers 3 main areas: Installation - Learn about the installation of Java and BBj on Windows and Linux, with particular emphasis on setting up the BASIS License Manager, both on the local Windows machine and on a Linux server. Examine the issues related to running locally on a Windows machine and in a thin client mode, with the license manager and BBj on a Linux server. Then learn how to use the same license for BBj and Visual PRO/5 4.x. Implementation - See an overview of BBj architecture and deployment, the BBj Thin Client, the role of the BASIS Enterprise Manager, and moving code from BBx to BBj. Programming Concepts - Learn the new features available in BBj. Use the BBjIDE and other components in the BBj Enterprise Edition to create and debug a basic thin client/browser application. BBj coding techniques and the use of object variables and Java objects will be covered in hands-on examples. TRAVERSE Development Entry Level Adding fields to TRAVERSE - A step-by-step discussion of the process to use when adding fields to TRAVERSE tables. The presentation will include using SQL Server tools to add the field to the table(s), updating or creating SQL views to include the new field and adding the field to forms and/or reports. Data Entry Form Basics - We will cover the basic standards that should be used when creating new data entry forms for TRAVERSE. The issues discussed will include using SQL views as a record source, providing GUI management, error handling and multilingual and multi-currency. TRAVERSE Reporting - Learn the ins and outs of reporting for TRAVERSE. The topics covered in this session include using pick screens to provide filter criteria, using the TRAVERSE report macros to start a report object, establishing a record source, using the Form Printers feature of TRAVERSE for multiple copies of forms and handling multilingual and multi-currency formatting.

2 TRAVERSE Development - Advanced Level TRAVERSE Transaction Processing - Learn how to create a transaction entry system using TRAVERSE standards. Topics will include batch control, using tabs and subforms, and creating summary and detail modes of entry. Managing TRAVERSE Inventory - This session will discuss the new INUPD (Inventory Update) COM object and its use. The new object supports updates not only from within TRAVERSE, Access-based applications, but it now supports calls from other, external applications as well. Posting and Other Batch Processes - Learn how to structure a batch processing function within TRAVERSE. The topics will include basic function structure, using the server status function, creating rollback and restart logic and providing post process logs. (Time permitting): Extras - Using bar codes on TRAVERSE reports and forms; How to implement drill-down functionality on TRAVERSE forms; Creating lookups ( F2 ) for specific fields. This fast paced class will cover the setup of the base applications and also a brief overview of the daily functionality. The class will include the following applications SM, GL, IN, AR, SO, AP, PO and PA. The class also will cover year end for GL and a physical inventory in IN. The manual will have much more than what can be covered in the class. This class is ideal for the new dealers or VARs that have not worked with TRAVERSE previously. TRAVERSE Installation and Server Manager TRAVERSE Server Manager is the interface that enables you to perform necessary tasks on the server side of TRAVERSE. In the Server Manager class, we will discuss how you can create new companies, import or export company data, delete companies, update server components stored in Microsoft SQL Server, configure group and user security, set company permissions, and add or delete payroll years. We will also go through an installation of the Server Manager and Client. This class is ideal for the new dealers or VARs who need to brush up on Server Manager skills. TRAVERSE Service Director See what Open Systems has been doing with Service Director. Where is the application now? What can I expect in the future? We ll give training on the product as well as key points for demonstration purposes.
