Sustainability reporting Sustainability is a business approach that creates longterm stakeholder value by appropriately managing risks and optimizing opportunities across economic, environmental and social bottom lines. As businesses expand their global footprints, developing a holistic approach towards corporate governance and proactively integrating sustainability into mainstream business strategy is non-negotiable. Today, while an increasing number of companies and organizations want to make their operations sustainable, they are struggling to establish clear processes that will help them to set goals, measure and monitor KPIs, manage change and report on their performance. A sustainability report provides information on an organization s economic, environmental and social performance against set guidelines or an established framework. A balanced sustainability report communicates an organization s positive and negative impacts. Such transparent disclosures are a vital step for moving towards a sustainable global economy one that combines long term profitability with social justice and environmental care.

4 2 KPMG s GRI G4 Certified Training on Sustainability Reporting KPMG s GRI G4 Certified Training on Sustainability Reporting About GRI The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a non-profit organization that works towards a sustainable global economy by providing sustainability reporting guidance. It has pioneered and developed a comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that enables organizations to measure and report their economic, environmental, social and governance performance the four key areas of sustainability. Course outline The GRI G4 Certified Training Course helps participants to understand the sustainability context and coordinate the reporting process. The training course has been designed using global methodologies, adapted to GCC needs. The two day course covers various aspects of sustainability reporting including leading practice, interactive case studies and discussions and latest trends, as well as insights into challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability reporting. This training will help participants to: Learn about GRI s reporting framework Engage stakeholders and assess materiality Develop report content Manage assurance procedures Link sustainability reports to various global reporting disclosures, including the CDP and the United Nations Global Compact principles. Content The course provides basic GRI knowledge, introduces the five phases of the GRI sustainability reporting process, and gives a global and local context to sustainable development including: Introduction to sustainability reporting and GRI: Understand the sustainability context; benefits and challenges of reporting; GRI reporting framework and associated processes; leading practices followed by global organizations. Planning the GRI sustainability reporting process: Envision and plan the reporting process; tools to consider sustainability impacts; how to customize the reporting approach. Initiating and conducting dialogue with stakeholders: Understand the value of stakeholder engagement; tools to identify and prioritize stakeholders; effectively engaging with stakeholders; and linking engagement to materiality assessment. Focusing on key report aspects: Defining report content; GRI technical protocols; identifying and prioritizing of material issues; developing strategies to address issues; identifying and communicating goals. Building the report: Planning and managing data collection, collation and analysis; ensuring quality of information; conducting internal checks and balances on information to be reported. Checking progress and effective communication: Report writing techniques; use of appropriate language and tone; effectively communicating performance; external assurance; planning for the next reporting cycle. Each attendee will receive a certificate of participation from GRI and KPMG, as well as a copy of the training material.

Our trainers Prathmesh Raichura Director Samar Ibrahim Manager Prathmesh has over a decade of environment management experience with a focus on climate change, corporate sustainability reporting and EHS due diligence. He is a qualified quality, environment and safety management systems auditor and has extensive sustainability reporting experience. He has successfully lead sustainability reporting advisory and assurance engagements across various sectors. Prathmesh has conducted numerous GRI approved training programs on G3.1 and G4 sustainability reporting. He has also led projects supported by the Indian government on life cycle assessment, as well as developing the national master plan to convert waste to energy. He contributed to KPMG s recent India s CSR reporting survey 2015 Samar has over a decade of experience and her skillset combines sustainability with marketing, change management and public relations. A native Arabic speaker, she is currently pursuing a Master s degree in sustainability leadership with a dissertation addressing sustainable business models, with a specific focus on the UAE. Samar has managed multiple projects, ranging from firm-wide corporate sustainability initiatives to flagship event execution. She liaises with KPMG colleagues across our global network on leading practices to manage the development of all CR programs firm-wide, encompassing the four quadrants (environment, workplace, community and marketplace), strengthening sustainability awareness, and enhancing the firm s presence in the market. Samar was the lead researcher and co-author of KPMG s Value of Reporting: Highlighting sustainability awareness in UAE and Oman which looked at the current state of non-financial reporting. Rahul Arora Senior Consultant Rahul has over seven years of experience in the field of environment management with a focus on business strategy, sustainability, corporate social responsibility and EHS due diligence. He is a regular speaker on important sustainability platforms and has conducted over 30 capacity building workshops on sustainability reporting. Rahul has successfully led sustainability engagements based on the G4 and G3.1 guidelines and assurance engagements according to ISAE 3000 and AA1000 standards. He was involved in making KPMG s recent CFO Summit carbon neutral. Rahul was the lead researcher of KPMG s recent publication The essentials of materiality assessment. In his previous assignment, Rahul was chosen to work directly with the Deputy CEO of KPMG in India and support strategy implementation, financial planning, service delivery, strategic growth initiatives and revenue engines across the firm.
