1 Title: Clinical Practice Data Analyst Coordinator Department: SIU Healthcare Core Date: 1/31/2018 Position Function This position is responsible to provide expertise on electronic health record data report design/generation to administration, clinicians, and health care teams. This position will function as part of a team and will specialize in the development of data and reporting requirements by studying clinical practice workflows and gathering information by analyzing data and interviewing customers. Organizational Relationships This position reports to the Information Technology Director; who reports to the Chief Medical Officer in the department of SIU Healthcare Core. Duties and Responsibilities The following information is intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbent in this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical extension of position responsibilities. Data Analysis and Report Writing 70% Works with financial, operational, and clinical healthcare information including a variety of data repositories and data warehouses associated with the past and current Clinical Practice Management Systems, Electronic Heath Records, and departmental systems to meet the data analysis and reporting needs of the clinical practice. Works directly with clinicians and senior leaders to design and perform complex analyses, database design development, and report creation. Uses advanced skills and experience to facilitate evaluation and improvement of quality performance by presenting complex information in an understandable and compelling manner customized to the audience Translates clinical practice data and reporting requirements into technical design documents and reports. Creates data reports, extracts, and/or dashboards from existing databases based on needs analysis of health system leadership, clinicians, and teams and industry best practices. 1

2 Identify and gather clinical, financial and/or administrative reporting requirements from customers. Assists with the interpretation and clarification of data requirement specifications from both internal and external customers. Support 10% Provides support to all customers in relation to reporting requests, initiatives and solutions. Creates detailed documentation supporting reproducibility of work items created. Training and Education 10% Educates and trains others on generation and/or interpretation of healthcare data, statistical analysis and application to decision making to improve organizational efficiency and outcomes Participates in education/training of individuals or teams on data analysis and interpretation. Supervision and Leadership 10% Supervises the orientation and work performance of lower level staff. Leads workgroups and team efforts as necessary around reporting projects and assignment.. May perform duties at lower levels. Skills and Abilities Needed for the Position Experience with translating clinical practice data and reporting requirements into technical design documents and reports Knowledge and experience in the preparation of various operation or clinical reports including documentation of end user reporting and analytical requirements Understanding of clinical practice management or electronic health record systems. Experience working with relational databases, query reporting, and report specification development. Knowledge of database and report writing software such as Microsoft Reporting Services, SQL Server Management Studio, MS Access, Business Objects, or Crystal reports. Proficiency with Excel analytical functions, tools, and pivot tables or experience with a statistical package such as SAS, SPSS, or Minitab Analytical ability and the skill in interpretation of analytical results for operational, financial, or research projects Project management and time management skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to learn and utilize new software applications for data retreival and reporting Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations. 2

3 Responsibility A. Supervisory Controls - Under general supervision of the Business Intelligence/Database Administrator and with guidance from the IT Director, this position is expected to independently prioritize requests from multiple areas, seeking direction from leadership if conflicts arise. B. Guidelines - This position operates under the general directives and guidelines from the Chief Medical Officer and the clinical practice Information Technology Director within the rules, policies, and operational procedures of SIU Healthcare, SIU School of Medicine, SIU Board of Trustees, and the laws of the State of Illinois. Difficulty C. Complexity Must be able to understand complex data needs and requirements; communicate and work with others within the clinical practice to understand workflows and documentation standards; and apply critical decision making on the most effective way to provide accurate and valid data to meet the needs of the customer. D. Scope and Effect - Primarily SIU HealthCare Core administrative areas. Departmental administrative and clinical areas. Also provide support for research and administrative departments in areas related to clinical practice data. Personal Contacts The majority of contacts will occur with SIU HealthCare and SIU School of Medicine personnel, departmental analysts, researchers, clinical managers, and end users. Occasionally will need to work with vendors or outside agencies as directed through various initiatives and projects. Desired Qualifications 1) Experience with Meaningful Use and/or PQRS reports and requirements. 2) Experience with Uniform Data System (UDS) clinical reports and requirements. 3) Experience developing complex reports, data extracts, or data management/analyst work with Allscripts Touchworks Electronic Health Record. Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities Participates in meetings, trainings and other environmental, health and safety activities as required by SIU School of Medicine.
