3 Analysis 1 - Purpose of Analysis? Assist with coordination of equipment delivery Show work flow of specific interior finishes and exterior wall system Identify potential conflicts in the field

4 What is? A 4D model is created by combining a 3D model with the appropriate scheduling data, hence adding the aspect of time. Advantages of 4D Models Improve constructability Ability to analyze activity sequencing Identify spatial conflicts between crews Improve work flow for subcontractors

5 Components of LSM Model Depicts first floor only (sequence can be replicated for second floor) Sequencing focuses on the clean rooms & MER room Exterior metal wall panels & structural support Metal Studs & Drywall Epoxy flooring Equipment Pads Air Handling Units

10 Preformed Metal Wall Panels Urethane Foam Insulation Exterior 22 gage stainless steel w/embossed pattern 2 x8 x1/4 steel 7ft. offset for support Advantages Installed easily and efficiently Minimal maintenance required resulting in long service life Resistant to impact and damage as well as the elements Disadvantages Long lead time associated with custom design Costly to replace and install damaged panels Buckling of panels is correct spacing is not allotted

12 Architectural Precast Concrete Panels Advantages Manufactured in a plant then shipped to site 2 of concrete, 2 of polystyrene insulation, 2 of concrete 20 x10 sections with a smooth gray finish No cold/hot weather issues With proper coordination the schedule can be reduced Quality assurance Ability to be load bearing Very durable Disadvantages Cost Shipping panels to site Could have long lead time for specialty shapes

15 Calculate Through Wall For metal wall panel: Heating: qx = ((70 8) * 35,700) / 14.5 = 152,648 Btu/h Cooling: qx = ((94 70) * 35,700) / 14.5 = 59,090 Btu/h For EIFS: Heating: qx = ((70 8) * 35,700) / = 131,516 Btu/h Cooling: qx = ((94 70) * 35,700) / = 50,909 Btu/h Difference Between Systems Heating: 152,648 Btu/h - 131,516 Btu/h = 21,132 Btu/h Cooling: 59,090 Btu/h - 50,909 Btu/h = 8,181 Btu/h = 0.68 tons % Reduction of heating and cooling loads Heating: (21,132 Btu/h / 8,000,000 Btu/h) * 100 = 0.26% Cooling: (0.68 tons / 3,000 tons) * 100 = 0.02% * The savings in operations cost for heating and cooling is negligible

16 The EIFS system would provide the most benefit to HGS Increase aesthetic value Reduce cost by $500,000 or $350,000 Impact schedule by +11 weeks or -1 week Though negligible increase energy efficiency

19 Quartzite Epoxy Flooring ¼ thick Installed in 3 layers which each require 24 hours to cure Epoxy shop coat, quartz aggregate, heavy epoxy coat Various aggregate colors Advantages Seamless system Resistant to chemicals, slip, and collection of dust Very durable surface Disadvantages Takes time to install Costly to replace and install damaged areas

20 Bonded Conductive Terrazzo Average thickness is 2 thick Consists of a cementitious binder and an aggregate Aggregate: marble, quartz, granite or glass Terrazzo is poured in place, allowed to cure, ground down, then polished Advantages Resistant to impact damage and daily wear and tear Resistant to chemicals due to conductive nature Disadvantages Can be difficult and expensive to repair Not 100% resistant to liquid Dividers requires at control joints to prevent cracking

21 Conductive Epoxy Terrazzo ¼ thick Consists of an epoxy binder and an aggregate Aggregate: marble, quartz, granite or glass Epoxy primer is set, epoxy system is toweled into place, grouted to fill voids, then polished and sealed Advantages Similar to that of the quartzite epoxy flooring Disadvantages One of the most expensive systems Can be expensive and time consuming to repair

24 Final s By incorporating a 4D model to the LSM facility the CM can: Identify spatial conflicts between crews Analyze activity sequencing Visually interpret work to be done in the clean & MER rooms An EIFS system would be a positive Value Engineering decision Increase aesthetic value Reduce total project cost Will not impact the schedule Use the specified floor covering for the clean rooms The quartzite epoxy system is the least expensive and takes the least amount of time to install Characteristics of other systems are not superior
