The quarrying activity of Pietra Serena only takes place within the company-owned quarries and the ore material is entirely worked within the Calamini factory. Urbano Calamini started his business in the 70 s, when the quarrying activity was only restricted to the outcropping layers due to the greater facilitations during the ʻuncoveringʼ process. Once quarried, the stone was therefore sold rough and untreated.
