1 SECTION VISUAL DISPLAY BOARDS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following types of visual display boards: 1.03 SUBMITTALS 1. Porcelain enamel markerboards (for liquid chalk). 2. Vinyl-fabric-faced cork tackboards. A. Product Data: Include manufacturer's data substantiating that tackboard materials comply with requirements indicated. B. Certificates: In lieu of laboratory test reports, when permitted by the Architect, submit the manufacturer's certification that vinyl-fabric-faced cork tackboard materials furnished comply with requirements specified for flame spread ratings QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced Installer who is an authorized representative of the chalkboard manufacturer for both installation and maintenance of the type of sliding chalkboard units required for this Project. 1. Maintenance Proximity: Not more than 4 hours' normal travel time from the Installer's place of business to the Project site.

Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide vinyl-fabric-faced tackboards with surface burning characteristics indicated below, as determined by testing assembled materials composed of facings and backings identical to those required in this section, in accordance with ASTM E 84, by a testing organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. 1. Flame Spread: 25 or less. 2. Smoke Developed: 10 or less PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Field Measurements: Take field measurements prior to preparation of shop drawings and fabrication to ensure proper fitting. Show recorded measurements on final shop drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delay WARRANTY 1. Allow for trimming and fitting wherever taking field measurements before fabrication might delay the Work. A. Porcelain Enamel Chalkboard Warranty: Furnish the manufacturer's written warranty, agreeing to replace porcelain enamel chalkboards that do not retain their original writing and erasing qualities, become slick and shiny, or exhibit crazing, cracking, or flaking, provided the manufacturer's instructions with regard to handling, installation, protection, and maintenance have been followed. 1. Warranty Period: Lifetime of the building. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following:

3 2.02 MATERIALS 1. Porcelain Enamel Marker Boards: Alliancewall Corp. Claridge Products and Equipment, Inc. Greensteel, Inc. 2. Tackboards: Best-Rite Chalkboard Co. Claridge Products and Equipment, Inc. Greensteel, Inc. A. Porcelain Enamel Markerboards: Provide balanced, high-pressurelaminated porcelain enamel markerboards of 3-ply construction consisting of face sheet, core material, and backing. 1. Face Sheet: Provide face sheet of 24-gage enameling grade steel especially processed for temperatures used in coating porcelain on steel. Coat the exposed face and exposed edges with a 3-coat process consisting of primer, ground coat, and color cover coat, and the concealed face with a 2-coat process consisting of primer and ground coat. Fuse cover and ground coats to steel at the manufacturer's standard firing temperatures, but not less than 1200 deg F (649 deg C). a. Cover Coat: Provide the manufacturer's standard matte finish cover coat, color selected from the manufacturer's standards. on b. Graph Lines: Where indicated, provide printed graph lines markerboard face sheets. 2. Core: Provide the manufacturer's standard 3/8-inch-thick particleboard core material complying with the requirements of ANSI A208.1, Grade 1-M Backing Sheet: Provide the manufacturer's standard inchthick aluminum sheet backing. 4. Laminating Adhesive: Provide the manufacturer's standard moisture-resistant thermoplastic-type adhesive.

Vinyl-Fabric-Faced Tackboards: Provide mildew-resistant, washable, vinyl fabric complying with FS CCC-W-408, Type II, weighing not less than 13 ounces per square yard, laminated to 1/4-inch-thick cork sheet. Provide fabric that has a flame spread rating of 25 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. Provide color and texture as selected from the manufacturer's standards ACCESSORIES 1. Backing: Make panels rigid by factory laminating cork face sheet under pressure to 1/4-inch-thick hardboard backing. A. Metal Trim and Accessories: Fabricate frames and trim of not less than inch-thick aluminum alloy, size and shape as indicated, to suit type of installation. Provide straight, single-length units wherever possible; keep joints to a minimum. Miter corners to a neat, hairline closure. 1. Field-Applied Trim: Provide the manufacturer's standard snap-on trim, with no visible screws or exposed joints, when factory applied trim is not feasible. B. Chalktray: Furnish the manufacturer's standard continuous, solid extrusion-type aluminum chalktray with ribbed section and smoothly curved exposed ends, for each chalkboard. C. Map/Display Rail: Equivalent to Claridge No. 79 Hang-Tight rail system FABRICATION A. Porcelain Enamel Markerboards: Laminate facing sheet and backing sheet to core material under pressure with manufacturer's recommended flexible, waterproof adhesive. B. Assembly: Provide factory-assembled markerboard and tackboard units, except where field-assembled units are required. 1. Make joints only where total length exceeds maximum manufactured length. Fabricate with the minimum number of joints, balanced around the center of the board, as acceptable to the Architect.

5 2.05 FINISHES 2. Provide the manufacturer's standard vertical joint system between abutting sections of markerboard. 3. Provide manufacturer's standard mullion trim at joints between markerboard and tackboard. A. General: Comply with NAAMM "Metal Finishes Manual" for recommendations relative to application and designations of finishes. B. Finish designations prefixed by "AA" conform to the system established by the Aluminum Association for designating aluminum finishes. C. Class II Clear Anodized Finish: AA-M12C22A31 (Mechanical Finish: as fabricated, nonspecular; Chemical Finish: etched, medium matte; Anodic Coating: Class II Architectural, clear film thicker than 0.4 mil). PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Deliver factory-built markerboard and tackboard units completely assembled in one piece without joints, wherever possible. Where dimensions exceed panel size, provide 2 or more pieces of equal length as acceptable to the Architect. When overall dimensions require delivery in separate units, prefit components at the factory, disassemble for delivery, and make final joints at the site. Use splines at joints to maintain surface alignment. B. Install units in locations and at mounting heights indicated and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Keep perimeter lines straight, plumb, and level. Provide grounds, clips, backing materials, adhesives, brackets, anchors, trim, and accessories necessary for a complete installation.

6 C. Coordinate job-site assembled units with grounds, trim, and accessories. Join parts with a neat, precision fit ADJUST AND CLEAN A. Verify that accessories required for each unit have been properly installed and that operating units function properly. B. Clean units in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Break in chalkboards only as recommended by the manufacturer. **END OF SECTION**

SECTION IMPACT RESISTANT WALL PROTECTION SECTION 10265 PART I - GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION A. Scope: Work under this Section shall include all materials and installation necessary to provide Impact-Resistant Wall Protection including Wall guards,
