All wood floors shall be sanded with a heavy power-driven sander. For the first cut, the floor shall be traversed in both directions going with the grain of the flooring using No. 2 1/2 sandpaper. Follow with No. 1 1/2 paper, then with No. 1/2 and finishing with No. 00. All cuts should be made with the grain. Rough or finish sanding on the diagonal will not be permitted without specific permission from the Architect. Particular attention should be given on each finishing cut to completely remove the coarser grit marks from the preceding cut. With a clean synthetic lambswool applicator, apply an even coat of sealer. While working 4 ft. by 4-ft. sections, apply product first across the grain then smooth out (feather) with the grain. After the first coat is thoroughly dry (usually 2-4 hourʼs) entire surface should be abraded using blue or green scrub pad under a single brush floor machine. Floor shall again be tack ragged using a Turkish towel slightly moistened with water. Now apply the first
7 coat of floor finish following manufacturerʼs recommended procedures. Allow the floor to dry overnight. G. Painting Game Lines (gym floor) - Mark game lines with proper colors of recommended game line paint according to Architectʼs drawings and with the use of precision taping machine for circles and arches. Note: Masking tape should be pulled as soon as the paint starts to set and not allowed to stand overnight. Paint should be allowed to dry for at least 12 hours. H. Finishing 1. After lines have dried overnight, abrade with blue or green scrub pad and tack rag with Turkish towel slightly moistened with water until no traces or powder remain on floor. Now apply the second coat of finish following same procedures as the first coat of finish. Allow to dry overnight. Abrade the floor with green or blue scrub pad and tack rag the floor with Turkish towel slightly moistened with water. Apply the third, fourth and fifth (final) coat of finish in the same manner as above. After the final coat of finish do not use floor for at least 72 hours. Avoid heavy traffic for at least one week. 2. During product application and drying time, floor must be free of dust and dirt. Following the final coat turn on the air handling system to get good air movement. Temperatures of the floor, room, and materials should be 65 degrees F. or above during treatment and curing. Allow adequate ventilation for proper curing. Product must be abraded with 150 grit screens (instead of blue or green scrub pad) if allowed to cure more than 48 hours between coats. 3. Total coats, floor finish system: (1) seal coat plus (5) finish coats. I. Perimeter Base - Install Robbins vent cove base anchored to walls with base cement or screws and anchors.
