Production of this composite material is possible thanks to more than 40 years' expertise in chemical composition, SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) manufacture and hot pressing. The resulting composite material, known as SMC, is a type of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) tonnes of SMC produced every year SMC is extremely robust in outside environments. It is not affected by corrosion and has good heat resistance, while its glass-fiber reinforced composition means it has excellent resistance to mechanical shocks. SMC vs. Thermoplastics Unlike thermoplastics, SMC does not weaken under the effect of a heat source or drip when exposed to flame, thereby preventing the spread of fire. SMC also has good resistance to standard solvents as well as alkaline agents. SMC vs. Concrete SMC offers the same level of mechanical performance as concrete, but is 10 times lighter and therefore much easier to handle. 4
