This magazine is designed to provide additional information on Sika s development and cutting-edge technology innovations that we can offer to our valuable customers. In the magazine, you will read about exceptional building projects that were accomplished with Sika innovative products and technical support, but also about ambitious company developments, such as our new DIC Site in Dubai that will strengthen our production capabilities within the UAE. In this issue we will feature some exciting projects. By end of 2018, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is expected to open the biggest urban mass-transit system metro Riyadh. The new network (currently under construction), will be comprised of six metro lines that connect 85 stations at a total length of 176 km. We are honoured to have been part of this iconic project. Another iconic project is Le Mer. The destination will innovatively combine upscale living with distinctive retail and leisure attractions, integrated outdoor living environment and engaging beach activities. Sika have supplied a range of Sarnafil PVC membranes in adhered and ballasted systems throughout the site. Our white reflective Sarnafil PVC membranes can help reduce energy consumption by keeping buildings as cool as possible. In every issue, the magazine will focus on a different Sika product segment, such as concrete or adhesives for industrial use. We will also concentrate on a different aspect of the Sika brand and show you the values that we share as a company and the principles we stand for. 5 PROJECTS RIYADH METRO By the end of 2018, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is expected to open the biggest urban mass-transit system. The new network which is currently under construction, will be comprised of six metro lines that connect 85 stations at a total length of 176 km. The new metro system will meet the demands of the growing population while reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. Sika was responsible for providing waterproofing, refurbishment and flooring solutions in the Riyadh metro network. The main materials including SikaFuko, Sikafix -210, Sika Waterbars, SikaGrout -114/ 214/ 275, Sikadur -31 SBA, Sikafloor Purcem-20/21 and Sikafloor -264/161. 6 LEISURE & ENTERTAINMENT HUB SUPPLIED RANGE OF PVC MEMBRANES IN ADHERED AND BALLASTED SYSTEMS La Mer integrates minimalist and contemporary design, spread across m 2 of existing and reclaimed land. Comprising four distinct zones the beach, a leisure and entertainment hub, North Island, and South Island La Mer will feature commercial, leisure, residential and hospitality components. The destination will innovatively combine upscale living with distinctive retail and leisure attractions, integrated outdoor living environment and engaging beach activities. The project will also launch a range of retail and F&B concepts, some of which will mark their foray into Dubai. Centrally located, the core value of the project is its leisure and entertainment hub that adds a whole new dimension through its offerings that focus on water play, beach sports, in addition to skate boarding, an outside gymnasia and youth activities. The existing beaches are to be redeveloped in order to offer improved high quality beach amenities to Dubai s resident community and visitors. Offering uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai s iconic skyline, La Mer is poised to set new global benchmarks in beach front development. Sika have supplied a range of Sarnafil PVC membranes in adhered and ballasted systems throughout the site including Sarnafil G476-12, G L, G410-12LF, Sarnafast SBF, Sarnacol 2170, 2142 S & Sarnafil welding cord PVC. Our white reflective Sarnafil PVC membranes can help reduce energy consumption by keeping buildings as cool as possible. 6

7 CONCRETE SOLUTION DOHA METRO Developed by PORR together with the Austrian Federal Railways, this Slab Track Austria technology is a ballast-free slab trailblazing track system which meets the most stringent demands of railway construction, with an international reputation as a top class product. The system has proven to be practically maintenance-free. And has a planned life of at least 60 years. The client specified to bond recycled rubber sheet acting as a separation and damping layer between the track slab and main concrete. To which, Sika proposed SikaMelt-9209 HT PSA hotmelt adhesive for application. SikaMelt-9209 HT is a spray applied on the concrete using a hotmelt melter. The rubber sheet is placed on the concrete slab immediately and pressed with a roller. Hotmelt adhesive was suggested over conventional contact adhesive system because of the following reasons: Environment friendly system with no solvents or volatile content. Fast handling time to meet the required production rate. The project is an outcome of Sika s wide product range, technology leadership and process know-how. For a customer, it provides an effective and cost efficient solution with minimal investment; and for Sika it created a valuable reference. Qatar Rail prefered Sika because of its fast handling strength, ease in application, no EHS (Ecological, Health and Safety) concerns, technical support and overall cost effective solutions. 7

8 8 Al Habtoor Residence - Three luxurious residential towers, situated in Al Habtoor City, comprising two 74-storey towers and one 52-storey tower, along with a 7-storey podium including a basement, a ground floor and five floors of retail and car park with over 2,000 spaces. The project will offer 1,460 apartments and 11 penthouses with exclusive leisure facilities for residents including swimming pools, a gym and spa, shops, cafes, supermarket and clinics.

9 ONE OF A KIND INDUSTRY SOLUTION Sika provided the contractor with structural glazing adhesive Sikasil SG-500 CN and Sikasil SG-18 for glass to aluminium bonding. Sikasil IG-25 as a secondary edge seal for insulating glass. The weather sealing SikaHyflex -305 EU was used as sealant between the panels to fill the gap; and SikaGlaze GG-735 as a grout for balcony glass embedding. Sika's successful involvement in this landmark project is largely due to the very good relationship with the Façade contractor ALUMCO LLC, and our well established Technical Service team allowing a fast response time and our unique Middle East laboratory based in Dubai. 9

10 BLUE WATERS Bluewaters is a man-made mixed use island located off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence. Ain Dubai, the world s largest observation wheel, forms the unique centrepiece of this development that is poised to become one of the world s largest tourism hotspots. The island will also feature distinctive retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment zones. Connected to the mainland with a direct roadway from the Sheikh Zayed Road, Bluewaters will operate a mono rail system to transport visitors to the entertainment zone from the metro station. In addition, a pedestrian bridge will link the island to the JBR beachfront. Sika has provided waterproofing, concrete, roofing, interior finishing and Industry solutions for this landmark project. Sika provided range of products and systems such as Sikaplan WP HL System, SikaFuko Eco-1 System, Sikadur Combiflex SG System, Sika Dilatec Tapes, Sika Injection range, SikaSwell A Profiles, Sika Waterbars Range, Sikalastic -851 R. 10

12 SIKA FIRE PROTECTION SOLUTIONS FOR JOINTS AND PENETRATION In case of fire within buildings smoke and heat will spread through penetrations and joints endangering residents and blocking escape paths. Fire protection solutions from Sika seal penetrations and joints help retain fire and smoke to where they occur for a certain time, allowing inhabitants to exit the building safely. Sika fire rated products and systems comply with the most relevant standards (EN, ETAG, UL, ASTM) in order to ensure the highest fire resistance. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REACTION TO FIRE AND RESISTANCE TO FIRE A flame retardant product (e.g. B1 foam) is not a fire resistance product. There are two different types of fire testing for building materials. Reaction to fire: How does the product react to an open flame? The reaction to fire is described by the combustibility, smoke development and dripping behaviour. Fire Resistance: How long can a product that is built into a fire protection system withstand the impact of fire. This is described by the resistance time during standardized fire tests e.g. EI 240. For the fire resistance of a building only the combined resistance of the individual system components counts. For example, a fire resistant door together with the fire resistant sealant and wall can hinder the spreading of fire and smoke. Therefore fire resistant tests are much more important than the reaction of a product to a flame. SIKA SOLUTIONS HELP TO SAVE LIVES 12

13 INNOVATIONS SIKA GALVANIC ANODE DEVELOPMENT Sika FerroGard ICM Galvanic Anodes are engineered zinc anodes used for the protection of reinforcing steel in concrete. Embedded galvanic anodes are cost-effective corrosion control systems as they are mainly used within concrete repair where they are placed at the perimeter of the repair. They are also used at the interface of new and existing concrete in full or partial - depth repairs. These Anodes protect embedded steel reinforcements in concrete structures including bridges, buildings, multi-storey car parks, marine structures and industrial facilities. The galvanic anodes are a well proven technology with several advantages such as reducing active corrosion. Protection from incipient anode corrosion and use in high chloride conditions. The Sika FerroGard ICM anodes have an advanced and innovative design concept compared to the existing anodes in the market. The Zinc grid embedded in special mortar (Geo-Polymer type cement) provides higher active surface area. Tests show the zinc mesh exerts a shielding effect on the deeper zinc mesh layers. Therefore zinc-mesh layers will be consecutively activated over the life of the anode assuring near constant galvanic active surface of the multilayer zinc mesh anode. Using Sika FerroGard ICM Galvanic Anodes will help to achieve the most effective repair and protection strategy and ensure highest durability as well. 13

In 2016, the majority of targets were met, with only waste utilization and occupational safety falling short of their goals. 15 Simply Sustainable SIKA SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY Sika continued to implement its sustainability strategy in With the avowed aim of enhancing utility and reducing negative impacts, the company continued to pursue its six strategic target areas that focus on economic performance, sustainable solutions, local communities/society, energy, waste/water and safety. A recent survey of interested stakeholders revealed that these points of emphasis are the right ones and that the system of targets will remain correct in the future. Through its products, systems and solutions, Sika strives to create long-term benefits and added value for all its stakeholders and to reduce resource consumption and impacts associated with production significantly SUSTAINABLE PERFORMANCE Green Building Initiatives and Certification Systems, such as LEED and BREEAM, assess the sustainable performance of building materials and also the performance of the whole building (e.g., energy efficiency). Such initiatives are of growing importance and will consequently influence the market demands for construction products. Listed here are some of the most relevant Green Building Initiatives. Sika is actively participating in these initiatives and programs. 15

Regional distribution is as follows: EMEA : 9,083, North America: 1,818, Latin America: 2,349, Asia/Pacific: 4,169. The age structure at Sika is broadly balanced: 15% of employees are under 30 years of age and 23% over 50. Over 95% of employees have permanent employment contracts. Together, the workforce generated a net added value of CHF 1,935 million in 2016 This corresponds to net added value per employee of CHF 112,000. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FUTURE Sika gives preference to internal candidates for specialist and management appointments. For example, since four years Sika s senior management roles have almost all been filled internally. The longterm nature of employees career prospects is one reason why the labor turnover rate is just 6.2% Global and regional staff development programs not only convey know-how and skills, but also motivate employees by inspiring a strong sense of identity, which essentially reflects Sika s corporate values and principles. Sika is proud to have a large number of long-serving employees. It sets great store by people who stay with the company and share their know-how and experience for as long as possible. Sika regards internal and external training courses as key development tools for its more than 17,000 employees. The range of courses on offer also includes more extensive training programs, some of which are organized through partnerships with universities and scientific institutes. In the year under review, Sika spent approximately CHF 9.9 million on staff development. The aim is to provide at least ten hours training per year for each employee. In 2016, this figurestood at 12.4 hours. LEARNING FOR LONG-TERM SUCCESS The Sika Business School offers programs in the areas of management development and talent development. In the year under review, the school ran 12 courses for junior managers. Sika continued its partnership with the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland. Among other things, over 100 managers took part in a training course on leadership and strategy. The Sika Business School lays particular emphasis on the area of sales and marketing, offering numerous courses to develop the sales force. Furthermore, many training courses on Sika products and their applications take place at local and regional level. The company s expertise in advising customers is thus fostered worldwide. In the reporting year, various online and offline offerings plus a new, purposedesigned e-learning software application were launched as part of the overarching SikaLearn concept. NEW FORMS OF COMMUNICATION During the reporting year, the new SikaWorld digital communication and collaboration portal was launched in over 50 countries. This so-called social intranet serves as a combined forum for information, communication and collaboration. In tandem with the SikaConnect internal social media platform, it helps to ensure that information is turned into practical knowledge. The Group is also present on external social networks such as LinkedIn, where Sika had 45,000 followers in Both internal and external digital media play a key role in shaping Sika s corporate culture. This not only covers recruitment and training, but also extends to everyday communication, whether at the workplace or off-site.

At Sika, the assimilation of different ways of thinking and living serves to unlock new potential. These awards show third party recognition for the excellent work of our teams all around the world. This section highlights some of the approximately 50 awards won by Sika this year. PRODUCT CONFORMITY CERTIFICATE DUBAI CENTRAL LABORATORY CERTIFICATION Attested by Dubai Central Labaratory of Dubai Muncipality, Sika has recieved a product conformity certificate on low emitting materials (Coatings & Adhesives). SIKA SARNAFIL RECOGNIZED FOR ITS TREMENDOUS CONTRIBUTION TO SKILLS TRAINING Sika Sarnafil was again recognized as the national training base for high- polymer membranes in the roofing and waterproofing industry in China. The award comes from the China National Vocational Skills Assessment 040 Station and has been received by Sika Sarnafil for the third consecutive year. This means that the training base is a China National Government accredited vocational skills center for roofing and waterproofing. Training sessions at Sika Sarnafil focus on both the theory and hands-on applications for high-polymer singleply membranes and systems. As a technological pioneer and international player in the Chinese market, Sika Sarnafil is also the first and only international company to receive the title in China. Sika is the only certified sealant and adhesive firm in Dubai at Dubai Central Labaratory. MESH MOULD INNOVATION RECEIVES SWISS TECHNOLOGY AWARD With Sika as its industrial partner, researchers at ETH Zurich won the Inventors category of the Swiss Technology Award 2016 at the Swiss Innovation Forum in Basel. Developed in collaboration with Sika experts, Mesh Mould technology makes it possible to produce concrete elements of any shape without using formwork. This heralds the dawn of a digital future in the construction industry. SIKA WEBSITE LEADS THE WAY IN SWITZERLAND Following its third place last year, Sika is now front-runner in the rankings of all websites of listed companies in Switzerland, and was awarded the first prize. Sika has also improved in European terms and now lies in 12th place out of the almost 500 websites that have been analyzed. The Web rankings were compiled for the 20th time by Comprend and Lundquist in Milan, and are seen as a benchmark in digital communication. 18

19 SIKACERAM SETS STANDARDS IN CHINA SIKA UK WINS AT THE UKROOFING AW ARDS IN THE SINGLE PLY CATEGORY Sika has received two awards under Mortars of China 2016, organized by the China Building Material Market Association. SikaCeram was honored as leading brand and SikaCeram Wide-application a product available in China was recognized as one of the most innovative cementitious tile adhesive products. The Chinese tile adhesive market has maintained high double-digit growth rates during recent years, which has helped SikaCeram to become widely recognized as a progressive tiling system in this region. With truly stunning results, Sika Sarnafil s residential Project in London Ewart Grove impressed the judges of the prestigious UK Roofing Awards 2016, hosted by the NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors). The project won in the Single Ply category due to its extremely intricate design including two barrel roofs and a large, unique triangulated tower at the front which presented a real challenge. Sika took roof installation to new frontiers and pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved with single-ply roofing. SIKA WINS EUROPEAN AUTOMOTIVE AWARD FOUR AWARDS FOR SIKA PROJECTS IN THE US Frost & Sullivan recognized Sika with the European BIW Automotive Adhesives Product Leadership Award. OEMs use of lightweight materials in the BIW (body in white applications) segment presents growth opportunities for adhesives in vehicle manufacturing. To capture these opportunities, Sika Automotive focuses on innovative adhesives which allow a mix of materials to achieve weight reduction and at the same time an increase of the stiffness of the car bodies. SikaPower and SikaSeal are for Frost & Sullivan Research the most efficient BIW adhesives in the market. The award ceremony took place in summer 2016 in London. Sika can once again look back on a successful year with four awards from the prestigious International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). The ICRI recognizes outstanding concrete refurbishment projects. The renovation of the historic Hibernia Bank building in San Francisco was chosen as project of the year. Earthquake resistance and reinforcing the building structure played a decisive role in the project. Extensive preliminary structural testing and the way in which the historic building s features were maintained won over the jury. Sika supported the project with its technical expertise and products. AMATA BEST WASTE MANAGEMENT AWARD FOR SIKA FACTORY IN THAILAND More value, less impact is a key priority for Sika, and the team in Thailand made a big contribution towards achieving that goal when they won the Amata Best Waste Management Award 2016 for the Sika factory on the Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate. Sika was one of the factories to take home the Gold Award. The award recognizes factories that have the best waste efficiency management, with a main focus on reduce, reuse and recycle. Companies must also meet or exceed Thailand s waste regulation requirements. SIKA GETS THE VOTE FROM BRAZILIAN BUILDING MATERIAL MERCHANTS In 2016, Sika Brazil won the National Association of Building Material Merchants Anamaco Award for its waterproofing and bitumen membranes. This is a significant prize because it is voted for by the experts selling Sika s products, namely more than 1,600 construction material dealers in Brazil. When surveyed on the best companies, Brazil s dealers put Sika on top. The awards ceremony took place in São Paulo and brought together 2,000 people from the industry including distributors, industry entrepreneurs and leading construction authorities 19

21 The Sika Growth Model is synonymous with long-term success and profitable growth. By focusing on market penetration, innovation, emerging markets, and acquisitions, and driven by its strong corporate values, Sika is growing successfully. Since the targets of Strategy 2018 had been achieved two years early, Sika s strategic goals were reviewed in the second half of 2016 in conjunction with senior managers worldwide. This review resulted in a confirmation of the growth model and a raising of the strategic targets. Sika is now aiming for an EBIT margin of 14 16% (previously 12 14%) and an operating free cash flow greater than 10% (previously over 8%). The aim is to achieve a return on capital employed in excess of 25%. By 2020, 30 new factories are to be commissioned and 8 new national subsidiaries established. The annual sales growth target remains at 6 8%. 22 EVENTS BIG SHOW OMAN 2017 Sika exhibited extensive range of products in The Big Show Oman (Builders International Gathering). It is an annual international exhibition that caters to the building and construction industry in Oman, the Middle East and global markets. 22

23 QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS CONFERENCE & WORKSHOP Under the Patronage of the Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), the 4th Annual Quality Assurance for Sustainable Construction Materials Conference & Workshop was held at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai. Sika UAE was the gold sponsor for the event. The conference focused on the role of quality building materials in achieving higher standards for sustainability and safety in buildings and infrastructure. The conference featured technical lectures by presenters from the Middle East, Europe and the US and international industry experts from the GCC, USA, Asia and Europe. Mark Schneider, Head of Global Product Sustainability Sika Switzerland presented on Sika's sustainable solutions and green building programs used globally and in gulf region
