F. Provide metal edge strips of width shown on the drawings and of required thickness to protect exposed edges of the flooring. Provide units of maximum available length to minimize the number of joints. Use butt>type metal edge strips for concealed anchorage, or overlap>type metal edge strips for exposed anchorage. Unless otherwise shown, provide strips made of extruded aluminum with a mill finish. 2.5 FLOOR SEALER A. This floor sealer shall be applied to all concrete floors following the abatement of the asbestos containing floor tile / mastic until new flooring can be installed. Lees Universal Concrete and Floor Sealer is a latex based sealer designed for ensuring the adhesive bond for installations where potential problems exist. EverSeal has excellent resistance to moisture penetration, adhesive bleed through from latex based adhesives, and dust and oil contamination. It is ideal for use in sensitive environments; it has very low odor and low VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and contains and antimicrobial agent. EverSeal is designed for use with all Lees installation products: Lees Wet Set RE Adhesive, Lees Squared Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, Lees Thermotape, and Lees NeoFloor Adhesive. EverSeal is packaged in four gallon containers; spread rate is approximately 40 yards per gallon per coat. B. One Coat of EverSeal Is Recommended for the Following Conditions: 1. Dusty Subfloors EverSeal seals out dusty, dirty subfloors, providing a clean substrate on which to install any of the Lees adhesives and carpet products. EverSeal will also seal Gypcrete patches and oil contamination over wood subfloors. 2. Porous Subfloors EverSeal will seal porous subfloors, preventing the loss of adhesive into the subfloor. Porous subfloors can include unsealed concrete or

4 hardwood, or plywood subfloors. EverSeal will also seal concrete patching compounds. 3. LatexBased Adhesives Lees EverSeal is guaranteed to seal any existing latex adhesive residue that may remain on the subfloor. EverSeal serves as a barrier between the old and new adhesives to prevent bleed through or reactions with the new adhesive. 4. EverSeal will also deaden residual adhesive tack to provide easier installation of the new carpet. NOTE: Lees EverSeal is not warranted for use over cutback or black solventbased adhesives. To seal old cut back or black solvent based adhesives, use Lees SureSeal subfloor sealer. C. Two Coats of EverSeal Are Required for the Following Conditions: 1. Elevated ph (Alkalinity) Levels EverSeal will provide a barrier coat to prevent alkaline salts in the slab from reacting with the adhesive. If the ph level of the subfloor is between 9 and 14, mop the floor with a vinegar and water solution (eight ounces of vinegar to one gallon of water) to remove alkalinity on the surface of the slab. Allow this solution to dry completely, then use two coats of Lees EverSeal to seal the surface of the concrete (see EverSeal installation instructions). 2. Elevated Moisture Levels EverSeal is recommended for any subfloor with a calcium chloride test result up to 8 pounds of moisture per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours when used with Lees Wet Set RE Adhesive. Installations using pressure sensitive adhesives, tape systems, or any of Lees other adhesive systems can be protected up to 8 pounds of moisture when using Lees EverSeal. However, Lees Technical Service must be consulted if the moisture reading is above 5 pounds for these types of installations. Lees will assist the contractor in determining the best application method based on site conditions. If two coats of EverSeal are applied, with both coats receiving 24 hours of curing time, EverSeal is guaranteed for the lifetime of the carpet as a moisture barrier between the subfloor and Lees adhesives. Please note that the calcium chloride test measures moisture, not hydrostatic pressure. EverSeal is not guaranteed against hydrostatic pressure. D. Warranty 1. When used according to instructions and in conjunction with Lees carpets and adhesives, the Lees Lifetime Warranty extends to the adhesive bond of the carpet to the subfloor. This warranty covers EverSeal s ability seal out moisture emission up to 8 pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours as measured by a calcium chloride test (ASTM F ) when used with Lees Adhesives. (For adhesives other than Lees Wet Set RE, contact Lees Technical Service if the moisture reading is between 5 and 8 to determine the best application method.) If the moisture level is over the recommended limits, other means must be employed to curtail moisture emissions before installation. NOTE: Lees Technical Service must be consulted if the moisture reading is above 5 pounds for these types of installations. Lees will assist the contractor in determining the best application method based on sight conditions

5 2. EverSeal is also warranted to also stop alkaline salts from rising to the surface of the slab, providing the slab is cleaned with the vinegar and water solution before application. Also, EverSeal is guaranteed to deaden old adhesive residual tack and seal dusty or porous plywood and concrete floors. Note: EverSeal must be applied to bare, clean concrete to serve as moisture barrier. For this warranty to apply, documentation of temperature and humidity at the time of application must be sent to Lees Technical Services. If using EverSeal to correct a moisture problem, calcium chloride test results must also be sent to Lees Technical Services, along with the size of the installation and the amount of EverSeal purchased, either through a copy of the invoice from Lees Customer Service or documentation from the Lees authorized dealer where the EverSeal was purchased. Lees also requires documentation of purchase of a Lees Adhesive. Send documentation to: Lees Technical Service, Attn: EverSeal Warranty, 65 East Ferguson Avenue, Wood River, IL This warranty covers full replacement of material and reasonable labor costs for the affected installation. This guarantee only covers those installations where a Lees adhesive product and Lees floor covering are being installed over Lees EverSeal. The Lees warranty does not cover those installations where Lees floor coverings and Lees adhesives are not used. 2.6 EXTRA STOCK A. Furnish and turnover to the owner one carton or 5%, whichever is greater, of each type and color of materials specified in this section. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION A. Examine subfloors prior to installation to determine that surfaces are smooth and free from cracks, holes, ridges, and other defects that might prevent adhesive bond or impair durability or appearance of the flooring material. B. Inspect subfloors prior to installation to determine that surfaces are free from curing, sealing, parting and hardening compounds; residual adhesives; adhesive removers; and other foreign materials that might prevent adhesive bond. Visually inspect for evidence of moisture, alkaline salts, carbonation, dusting, mold, or mildew. C. Report conditions contrary to contract requirements that would prevent a proper installation. Do not proceed with the installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. D. Failure to call attention to defects or imperfections will be construed as acceptance and approval of the subfloor. Installation indicates acceptance of substrates with regard to conditions existing at the time of installation. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Smooth concrete surfaces, removing rough areas, projections, ridges, and bumps, and filling low spots, control or construction joints, and other defects with Fast>Setting Cement>Based Underlayment and Skim Coat as recommended by the flooring manufacturer

6 B. Remove paint, varnish, oils, release agents, sealers, and waxes. Remove residual adhesives as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. Remove curing and hardening compounds not compatible with the adhesives used, as indicated by a bond test or by the compound manufacturer's recommendations for flooring. Avoid organic solvents. C. Perform subfloor Calcium Chloride Tests (and Bond Tests) to determine if surfaces are dry; free of curing and hardening compounds, old adhesive, and other coatings; and ready to receive flooring. D. Vacuum or broom>clean surfaces to be covered immediately before the application of flooring. Make subfloor free from dust, dirt, grease, and all foreign materials. 3.3 INSTALLATION OF TILE FLOORING A. Install flooring in strict accordance with the latest edition of the manufacturers instructions for a guaranteed installation system of the flooring. B. Install flooring wall to wall before the installation of floor>set cabinets, casework, furniture, equipment, movable partitions, etc. Extend flooring into toe spaces, door recesses, closets, and similar openings as shown on the drawings. C. If required, install flooring on pan>type floor access covers. Maintain continuity of color and pattern within pieces of flooring installed on these covers. Adhere flooring to the subfloor around covers and to covers. D. Scribe, cut, and fit to permanent fixtures, columns, walls, partitions, pipes, outlets, and built>in furniture and cabinets. E. Install flooring with adhesives, tools, and procedures in strict accordance with the manufacturer's written instructions. Observe the recommended adhesive trowel notching, open times, and working times. 3.4 INSTALLATION OF ACCESSORIES A. Apply top set wall base to walls, columns, casework, and other permanent fixtures in areas where top>set base is required. Install base in lengths as long as practical, with inside corners fabricated from base materials that are mitered or coped. Tightly bond base to vertical substrate with continuous contact at horizontal and vertical surfaces. B. Fill voids with plastic filler along the top edge of the resilient wall base or integral cove cap on masonry surfaces or other similar irregular substrates. C. Place resilient edge strips tightly butted to flooring, and secure with adhesive recommended by the edge strip manufacturer. Install edge strips at edges of flooring that would otherwise be exposed. D. Apply [butt>type] [overlap] metal edge strips where shown on the drawings, [before] [after] flooring installation. Secure units to the substrate, complying with the edge strip manufacturer's recommendations. 3.5 CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Perform initial maintenance according to the latest edition of the manufacturers recommendations. B. Protect installed flooring as recommended by the flooring manufacturer against damage from rolling loads, other trades, or the placement of fixtures and furnishings. END OF SECTION
