2 Dear future Diplomats, Jakarta Model United Nations (JMUN) 2012 presented by Indonesian Student Association for International Studies 9th July-13th July 2012 Jakarta, Indonesia Creating Sustainable Development through Young Generations Action My name is Maya Susanti, serving as the Secretary General of Jakarta Model United Nations (JMUN) Through this invitation, I woud like to introduce JMUN 2012, hoping that JMUN 2012 and your institution can have better understanding that will be a ground for better cooperation in the future. JMUN 2012 is presented proudly by Indonesian Student Association For International Studies (ISAFIS). ISAFIS is a youth association, founded since 28 years ago as student organization in Indonesia. ISAFIS members come from various universities and background. Carrying its name, ISAFIS missions are to develop understanding on international issues among students and youth in Indonesia, and eventually promote mutual understanding among nations. ISAFIS has progressively spreads our network to national and international scope. ISAFIS s programs consist of discussions on international issues conducted with the government, embassies, and even NGOs. To bring international studies closer through practice and real life experience, ISAFIS also provide diplomatic course adapted from Model United Nations to both members and parties interested to it. JMUN 2012 is the second MUN (Model of United Nations) that is going to be held by ISAFIS (Indonesian Student Association for International Studies) after the first MUN held by ISAFIS last year, JMUN 2011, lasted successfully. 5 The Events 1. Night Zero Night Zero is a pre-event which is designed for delegates to know each other and befriend before conference sessions begin. 2. Opening Ceremony It is a ceremony to officially begin the whole series of conferences and events of Jakarta Model United Nations As the keynote speaker, we will invite The Minister of Environment, H.E. Prof. Dr. Balthasar Kambuaya, MBA.* Moreover, there will be welcome remarks from Mr. Michele Zaccheo*, Coordinator of United Nations Information Center Jakarta, as the United Nations representative in Indonesia. 3. Green Workshop/Journalism Workshop An event aims to deepen delegates knowledge on the topic given. Besides, the most important one, this event will also provide the short training of writing, considering writing skill is an important one in their academic life. This event also invite some representatives from school and universities around Jakarta to come together and take a part in this short course. 4. Committee Session This is the main event of JMUN In conference session, delegates will experience UN conference simulation in which they have to negotiate, debate, and also deliberate to formulate the resolution for particular issue that is discussed in each committee. Delegates will be put in 4 different committees: a. General Assembly (GA) b. Security Council (SC) c. United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) d. European Union 5. Rules of Precedures and Conference Zero This pre committee session s activity is intended to give further explanation to delegates on how to do MUN. All of the procedures, mechanism, and rules, that compulsorily-understood by the delegates, will be introduced in this activity. 6. Cultural Night This cultural night is presented by and for the delegates itself. Every delegation will present a cultural performance from his/her province/ country. Moreover, there will be cultural booth from every province. On the Cultural Night, we plan to hold a sarasehan (informal discussion) with Governor of DKI Jakarta under the topic of Ayo ke Jakarta! 7. Committee Dinner After a long day in conference rooms, delegates have a chance to mingle and to talk informally about the conference with other delegates and the directors of the committees during the dinner. This activity is inspired by delegates informal meeting in the real UN conference.

6 8. Hearing with Government The aim of this activity is to deliver the conference resolution to the government, so the resolution will not be a waste. Hopefully the resolution can be some kind of recommendation for Indonesian government in handling international issues. Thus, delegates will have audience session with DPR RI and transfer resolution of JMUN 2012 from ISAFIS to DPR. This is to prove that international youth is aware and capable to handle social and international issues. 9. Sustainable Business Competition It is a competition of creating green business concept that will give positive effects for Indonesian society as a follow-up of JMUN Delegates who are willing to participate in this competition have to submit their proposal and have to go through two competition phases. The concept of proposal should relate with the environmental friendly and sustainable project. The winner will get the opportunity to realize their project. 10. Youth NGOs Festival It is a festival that will be held on July 9th, Numerous youth-initiated NGO will be invited to showcase their field of work in the booth that we provide. 11. Food and Product Fair It is a food and product bazaar which will be held from July, 10th to 12th, 2012, from to WIB. 12. Parallel Discussion It is a discussion which is conducted by each committee in order to have mutual and equal understanding towards the issue. This event will represent the experts from various institutions related with: UN-GA : Represent A speaker from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia* UN-SC : Represent A speaker from ASEAN Secretariat* UNFCCC: Represent A speaker from Ministry of Environment* EU: Represent A speaker from EU Delegation* 13. Trees Planting Action This is a refreshing event after three days of conference, together with the committee, the delegates will own a tree to be planted in a place reserved. This event is one of youth action towards climate change issue. This is also in line with the national plan of Indonesia to plant tree as much as we can in order to help carbon offset efforts. 14. Closing Ceremony Eventually after the long but exciting events we come down to the end. It is the closing for the whole events of JMUN 2012 that is marked with the Gala Dinner, in which representatives from Ministry of Environment and media are invited. Awarding session for best delegates and announcement for the winner of Green Business Competition will be held in closing ceremony. (*)to be confirmed

7 How to Apply There are two ways that you can choose to apply for JMUN 2012: The first way is by filling the online form with these steps: 1. Go to JMUN 2012 website, Then, you have to click on REGISTRATION page on the home screen or simply click on this link 2. Fill in all the box with all your data, and your answers. 3. Besides, to register as a delegation (a team of your institution), please see the criteria: - All members of the delegation must be from the same institution or university - There must be representation in all councils - The minimum members for a delegation is ten members. JMUN 2012 doesn t only provide the challenging conference, but also the fun events where you can have fun after conference. 3. High School students are welcomed! JMUN 2012 is open for university students and also High School students! For you, High School Students, JMUN 2012 will be the place where you can learn also also compete with the other delegates from various schools and universities. 4. New Friendship! JMUN 2011 has created successfully the friendship among the delegates. So, JMUN 2012 also has the desire to remain the beautiful friendship among the delegates and the committee this year!
