1 2014 Municipal Elections ELECTION JOBS JOIN OUR ELECTIONS TEAM! *This document is available in alternative formats upon request. The 2014 Municipal Elections are this October and we need you to join our team. We are seeking individuals to work in key positions on Voting Day, (October 27). This opportunity will help you gain new skills and experience! We need individuals to serve in a variety of key positions this brochure describes the opportunities that are available. Pay rates range from $150- $250 on Voting Day. Individuals who are selected will be required to attend a mandatory training session that will be scheduled during business hours. If you would like to be part of the 2014 Election Team complete the application form and recruitment quiz which you will find at the following link: Completed application forms and recruitment test packages can be completed online, mailed, dropped off at the City Clerk s Office Monday- Friday 8:30 am- 4:30 pm on the first floor of City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive, scanned and returned via to electionjobs@vaughan.ca or faxed to All applications are due September 5, Jeffrey A. 2 Customer Service Officer (CSO) The CSO is responsible for greeting and assisting voters at a voting location. Greets and directs voters and asks voters to have identification ready Asks to view the voter information card Demonstrates how to mark a ballot Directs voters to staff for assistance Assists with various duties Assists with closing the voting place Must attend mandatory CSO Training Session Mandatory Training Session 1.5 hours Voting Day (Monday, October 27, 2014) 9:30 am to 9:00 pm (approximate) Pay: $150 Revision Officer (RO) The RO is responsible for processing Voters List Revision Forms at a voting location. Assists with the opening and closing of the voting location Processes Voters List Revision Forms to add voters or correct information on the Voters List Must attend mandatory RO Training Session Mandatory Training Session 2 hours Voting Day (Monday, October 27, 2014) 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (approximate) Pay: $175
3 Managing Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO) The MDRO is responsible for managing a large voting location with 4 to 9 staff and ensuring that voting is conducted in accordance with the election procedures. Oversees the opening and closing of the polls Manages voting location staff Ensures that voters are provided with a positive customer service experience and that the accessibility of the location is maintained Ensures voter turnout is recorded hourly by the Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO) Distributes ballots to the Deputy Returning Officers (DROs) and accounts for all ballots in a statement at the end of voting Signs in scrutineers and monitors scrutineer activity Assist other election officials as necessary Completes all necessary paperwork Previous election experience desirable Must have use of own vehicle on Voting Day Must attend mandatory MDRO Training Session Voting Day (Monday, October 27, 2014) 8:30 am to 9:00 pm (or completion of duties) Pay: $250
4 Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) (Multiple Poll or Single Poll) The DRO is responsible for managing a single poll at a multiple poll voting location, or a single poll at a small voting location, and ensuring that voting is conducted in accordance with the election procedures. Manages the assigned poll s supplies and ballots Processes voters, administers oaths, and issues ballots Completes all necessary paperwork At multiple poll location, works with the Managing Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO) to set up, open and close the poll At single poll location, works with Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO), to set up, open and close the poll Previous election experience desirable Must have use of own vehicle on Voting Day (single poll only) Must attend mandatory Training Session Voting Day (Monday, October 27, 2014) 8:30 am to 9:00 pm (or completion of duties) Pay: $225
5 Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO) The TDRO is responsible for operating the vote tabulator in a voting place. Assists with setting up the voting place Processes ballots with voters, resolving problems as necessary Feeds ballots into the vote tabulator Records an hourly total of voters processed Assists with closing the voting place Returns tabulator to City Hall Must attend mandatory TDRO Training Session Must have use of own vehicle to transport vote tabulator to City Hall Voting Day (Monday, October 27, 2014) 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (or completion of duties) Pay: $225 For more information on election jobs contact us at: electionjobs@vaughan.ca
