Posiva today approaching the construction of final disposal facility Tiina Jalonen featuring Erkki Palonen Nuclear Science and Technology Symposium 3rd of November Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 1
Final disposal facility project ( ) Posiva has organized the most remarkable tasks into a megaproject consisting six programs, which deal with finishing the remaining open issues of the disposal concept design and construction of the encapsulation plant and the disposal facility preparing for the production The megaproject ends when the first deposition tunnel is closed - about one year of production included Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 2
Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 3
Strategic plans for development and finalization of the KBS-3 concept (1/2) Close the open issues Requirements of the disposal components finalized and the designs frozen Readiness to decide btw the KBS-3V and KBS-3H Confirm the understanding of the site properties and processes Assess and address the long-term performance of the system Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 4
Strategic plans for development and finalization of the KBS-3 concept (1/2) Address the safety of the KBS-3 system with the safety case for the operation license The safety case projects TURVA-2020 and BSA-2020 on-going Monitoring program and site projects on-going Olkiluoto Site Description Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 5
Preparing for production Rehearse operational processes Perform full-scale installation tests Optimize operational processes Optimize the production of the components and the disposal processes to fulfil the needs of cost-effective and reliable operation Develop competences Define the operational processes and organization Orient into the needs of operation with competence development Maintain R&D competences by sales of expertise, international cooperation Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 6
Full scale installation tests in ONKALO demonstration area DT4, POPLU DT3, POPLU monitoring DT1 DT2, MACHINERY TESTS FISST Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 7
Canister transfer and installation prototype vehicle tested in the demo deposition holes in ONKALO Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 8
Buffer and backfill prototype installation machinery tested Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 9

Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 11
POPLU Installations and Casting Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 12
Next full-scale test in ONKALO demonstration area will be FISST Full scale in situ system test, KBS-3V concept Includes all engineered barriers Canister, Buffer, Backfill and Plug Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 13
In other words Full-scale demonstration components will be installed by using Posiva s prototype machines, feedback of integrated operations components will be acquired by present subcontractor chains to test their feasibility in large series test canisters (2) are heated will be monitored in a certain level to get more information on early evolution of the disposal system is a pre-test to underground commissioning test where all the actions and components are done like in the operation phase detailed design of FISST is on-going aiming at commissioning in Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 14
Encapsulation Plant -project Detailed design of the systems on-going Welding station Canister lift Docking stations Several safety classified system descriptions (7/21) sent to STUK for approval Suppliers for the three main equipment under evaluation Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 15
Final Disposal Facility: Finishing ONKALO and moving into the construction of the final disposal facility The scope of the detailed design of the final disposal facility layout The scope of the first construction contract of the final diposal facility at the disposal depth. The construction is planned to start in December, The scope of the Final Disposal Facility -project includes the remaining parts of ONKALO under construction and the first construction contract of the final disposal facility Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 16
Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 17
Management of Posiva s megaproject Baseline schedule and budget until the operation defined Optimization of operation costs on-going Follow-up reporting developed for steering purposes Tiina Jalonen (feat PALL) 18
