8 Deionization Systems Reduce Dissolved Solids in Water Deionization System is removal method of the cation and anions ions from water. Deionization process is made when the ions level decreases to low levels and purification process is done. Deionization is a two stage process to eliminate all the ironic materials from the water. 12 Grey Water Treatment Grey Water is wash water.that is all waste water except toilet wastewater and kitchen wastewater. Grey Water Treatment and recycling is considered an important fact for saving energy, ecological benefits and green building and practices, this treatment is highly demanded by the residential and commercia l owners. Black water - Wastewater from the toilet and kitchen / garbage disposal, Household Grey Water is treated for following purposes; 1) Grey Water for irrigation Decontaminated grey water is used for irrigation A domestic Grey Water Treatment System diminishes bacteria, solids and chemical pollutants. Grey water tanks MUST be further treated. Otherwise it can cause health hazards. 2) Grey Water for toilet flushing The local authorities guideline needs to be followed for treating Grey Water for toilet flushing. The system consists of multi chamber tank which decrease solids by settlement, filtering and floating. The water is treated by chlorination or UV and is pumped to the toilet cisterns. The toilet cisterns should have an alternative clean water supply which can be turned on while maintenance is carried out on the grey water treatment system. 12

13 Commercial Grey Water Treatment Process Grey water is separately composed in an underground tank. A screen of 10 mm opening is provided at the inlet of the tank to remove the large suspended particles / debris from the waste stream. The grey water is then pumped to the aeration tank by using a submersible pump with cutter mechanism. Aeration is given to confirm that septic conditions do not occur, this will reduce big sized particles to less than 2mm size. In the aeration tank, chlorine is added to confirm that the chemical treatment of the waste water. The aerated effluent is treated using a Pressure Sand Filter to eliminate finer suspended solids prior to reuse. Chlorination is applied in the final collection tank for final polishing.
