Realising projects in the field of energy efficient building technology in Tunisia B. Eng. Oliver Fink Product Manager Energy Efficiency TÜV NORD Systems GmbH & Co. KG Hannover, Germany, Europe Essen, Germany 26 th March 2010
TÜV NORD Introducing the Company Systems
Company Profile TÜV NORD Systems Foundation of the associations: TÜV Nord e.v.: 1869 RWTÜV e.v.: 1872 TÜV Hannover/Sachsen-Anhalt e.v.: 1873 Foundation of TÜV NORD: 2004 Number of employees: more than 8,000 Turnover in 2008: 830 million An aimed turnover in 2010: million Folie: 3

Energy efficiency in residential and non-residential buildings
Introduction The global shortage of fossil energy carriers, rising energy costs, and the increasing importance of climate protection leads to new challenges regarding the saving of energy and the efficient handling of energy. The German legislator reacted to this and passed the Energy Saving Ordinance in The new law sets considerably higher requirements regarding the structural heat protection and technical building facilities. The Energy Saving Ordinance distinguishes between residential and non residential buildings and specifies two possibilities for issuing the Energy Performance Certificate. The result is the saving of energy through efficient use of energy! Folie: 6
Germany Tunisia Earth zones with different climate zones Folie: 7
World-wide environmental impact Global warming Limited natural energy sources Rising population -2006: 6,6 billion people -2050: 9,0 billion people Rising Urbanization Folie: 8
Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency Energy efficiency through the use of new products Renewable energy sources can not replace fossil energy sources Folie: 9
European legislation Energy efficiency targets - 20% energy saving by buildings need a large part of the total energy this must be reduced by 30% until 2020 European legislation 2002/91/EG -> Energy Performance of Buildings Directive Member states -> new efficiency standards -> Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV 2009) -> Energy Performance Certificate Folie: 10
Tunisia objectives in energy efficiency By 2000, with reserves declining and existing wells reaching maturity, Tunisia s production was no longer sufficient to meet domestic needs By 2001 the Tunisian government set higher restrictions on the use of energy By 2004 the Tunisian government enact the law which e. g. requires A higher usage of wind power Higher incentives for solar power A higher usage of geothermal wells Better infrastructure of power grids in the countryside Folie: 11
Energy Performance Certificate for buildings special requirements for non-residential buildings Residential buildings have to have an energy certificate for buildings, if a building will be sold or rent out Public buildings: Operators of buildings > m², e.g. municipal authority and institutions, schools, kindergartens, and hospitals have to display energy performing certificates in buildings There must be an assessment of energy saving techniques of buildings > 1000m² Folie: 12
Energy Performance Certificate for non-residential buildings - Schematically depiction of the balance scale/calculation according to DIN V Lighting Heating Air conditioning Ventilation WW-preparation Heat distribution - Net energy for heating and cooling in building zones - Net energy for ventilation and conditioning - HVAC Systems - Lighting - Warm water systems - Multifunctional production procedures - Utilization profile Folie: 13
Energy Certificate for Non-residential buildings Old buildings /stock based on the energy demand Zoning of a building: A zone summarizes the base part or area of a building that is marked by the same boundary conditions and which shows relevant differences in regards to the style /kind of conditioning (heating / cooling) and other zone criteria Corridors Toilet / Bathroom Offices Offices Interior spaces Folie: 14
Energy Saving Ordinance 2009 requirements Primary Energy Demand is a key requirements heat transmission loss is a side requirements Folie: 15
Examples of best practice
Example of best practice Middle sized office building: HQ of TÜV NORD Group in Hanover m² and a volume of 6050m³ - Heating system was taken into operation in Heat transmission of 1,5 W/m²*k - Energy consumption of about 229,65 kwh*m²/a - Windows replaced with a heat transmission of 1,1 W/m²*K - Insulation for walls of 14cm and roof of 20cm with a thermal insulation composite system - Condensing heating system The result: - Heat transmission of 0,65 W/m²*K - An energy consumption of 144 kwh*m²/a - Savings of energy cost TND annually Folie: 17
Hotel building on the 54 th latitude - No heat absorbing glass - No shading elements - No summer heat insolation -.. Folie: 18
Make HVAC Systems efficient simple TND in P el kw m³/h TND/kWh h/d d/a TND/a 15 years 1, , , , , , Difference per year [TND] Difference in 15 years [TND] , , Folie: 19
Worst example of energy efficiency The following is based on a Mc Kinsey case study Energy costs of a HVAC System: Energy costs for the HVAC System Savings due to regulation of the supply air of about 25% /a /a Labour costs: Average costs per employee /a 1,5 days absent per employee 300 /a cost by 700 employees /a Difference between energy costs - : Savings of energy costs Costs for days absent /a /a /a Folie: 20
Summary: - The shortage of fossil energy carriers is fact - Energy must be saved through energy efficiency - Some nations already have objectives, directives, ordinances and / or laws to save energy - To identify arrangements for saving energy is not as easy as it seems and should be done by experts Folie: 21
Thank you for your kind attention TÜV NORD Systems GmbH & Co. KG B. Eng. Oliver Fink Product Manager Energy Efficiency Am TÜV Hannover Germany, Europe Tel Fax Mobil ofink@tuev-nord.de h March 2010 Folie: 22
