NRW - Danish technology and management solutions David Yang yzy@dhigroup.com
NRW (non revenue water) Apparent losses (commercial losses) inaccurate metering data handling errors theft Real losses (physical losses) leakage overflow Unbilled authorized consumption Fire fighting Water for free Start with the low hanging fruits..
The Apparent Loss / Commercial Loss Commercial losses are typically about 30% of the total losses but ~ 75% of financial value of water losses A strategy that prioritises reduction of commercial losses pays back fast!
Solutions to water leakage - NRW Water has a price metering and pricing are needed District metered areas Pressure management Leakage repairs (reactive and/or proactive) Pipe replacement program Denmark: 76% of pipes are older than 1945, yet loss is only 7%
District metered area 1. Divide distribution network into district metered areas (DMA) by use of hydraulic network model 2. Installation of SCADA and flow and pressure instruments 3. Balance between inflow to DMA and metered consumption
Hydraulic Model Trunk Model with pipes bigger than 300mm
District DMA border Main pipe (all connected) Supply pipe Supply from main pipe District meter Emergency supply
Pressure management Pressure zones Demand dependent pressure (controlled in real-time with pumps and valves) High demand => high pressure Low demand => low pressure
MINERWA - Water distribution an integrated management system User interface WEB or thin clients Billing MINERWA MIKE CUSTOMISED and KeyZones Base maps Pipeline registration Costumer service SCADA MIKE URBAN Model analyser Data transmission Water supply network/district Metering Zones Flow and pressure Meter Pressure control Energy consumption Water quality
