13 Technology Offer Title: Simple Water Filtration Solution with simultaneous mechanical and adsorptive filtering, offering proven benefits for the industrial sector (including cooling towers) (Ref: 10 GB 46P4 3J84 ) Abstract: A Scottish company has developed and patented a water filtration system which simultaneously removes suspended solids and micro-organisms as part of its natural, chemical free process. The solution is successfully used by major brand customers across various sectors including industrial manufacturing (eg. food and drink) The company is interested in licensing and commercial agreements with cooling tower manufacturers, industrial control engineers and environmental consultants. Description: This commercially proven water filtration solution works by pumping or gravity feeding feed water directly to the top of the filter and passing it through the media bed as in the standard method of feeding granular media filters. The multi media deep bed filter consists of: - 4 layers of natural, long lasting. inert media - an increasing density, decreasing particle size and specific shape factor - a natural positive charge attracting bacteria such as Legionella and Cryptosporidium. The filter works in two ways: Mechanical retention of the suspended solids Adsorption of negatively charged pathogens and micro organisms removing % of solids down to 0.2 microns. The specific shape factor of the media contributes significantly to the fluidisation on backwashing the system, typical backwash water volume being 0.1 to 1% of the filtered water. Cooling Towers: The solution can be used for make up water, side stream and full stream filtration which reduces Legionella risk, biocide consumption and process fouling. The solution is offered as scaleable packaged solutions and the naturally long lasting media used in the filter has a 15 year guarantee. The technology competes directly with Sand Filtration and is more competitive than Sand Filtration solutions by a considerable margin.
14 Innovations and advantages of the offer While there are many water filtration systems and manufacturers in the market, there is no other system currently available that has the ability to operate as both a mechanical filter for exceptional suspended solids removal and simultaneously as an adsorptive filter for the removal of micro-organisms as part of its natural, chemical free process. Other benefits include: - Small footprint - High filtration velocity up to 60m3/m2hr (water temperature dependent) - Highly efficient backwash - Easy to install and maintain - Ability to retrofit media - Low energy consumption - Helps meet tight environmental discharge consents - Cheaper than Sand Filtration. Current and Potential Domain of Application Sand Filtration Desalination Membrane Pretreatment Grit Removal List of Keywords
