GASSNOVA SF THE NORWEGIAN STATE ENTERPRISE FOR CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE The aim of Gassnova s work is to make CCS a cost effecgve and safe climate measure to be uglized worldwide. Transport and Storage A safe solugon for CO2 storage must be ready when the full- scale CO2 Mongstad starts up Basis for investment decision 2016 Several sites have been studied to various levels of detail and confidence; Utsira, Johansen FormaLon, SogneMord FormaLon Troll Coast near, Stord Basin etc. Considerable technical effort has been done for preparing these sites for CO2 storage 2
Johansen, Johansen formation south of Troll Risk related to conflict with petroleum industry Has been worked intensively and is relatively mature Good reservoir and good cap rock Johansen Mongstad Troll Coast Near; Sognefjord formation east of Troll Risk related to petroleum exploration Has been matured as back-up alternative; Excellent reservoir and good cap rock Utsira central Shallow formation with documented weak zones Put aside due to low storage safety Utsira south; Dependent on dynamic trapping and seal in old wells Put aside due to low storage safety and long transport distance Utsira sør Stord-bassenget Kårstø Stord Basin; No well control; uncertain in respect of sand volumes and quality, but high potential Good cap rock, but risk with Øygarden fault Can not be matured in time for DG2/DG3
JOHANSEN STORAGE QUALIFICATION A work process was developed for maturalon of geological storage sites An iteralve subsurface work process is a basic element Includes is a method for capacity eslmalon. 4
Development Concept 12 inch pipeline from Mongstad 4 slot well template 2 wells (injeclon+monitoring)
ear 2024 JOHANSEN ASSESSMENT ar 2064 PotenLal communicalon 31/5-2 31/5-2 31/5-2 ar years (2064) 500 years (2514) Conclusions from Johansen assessment; Suitable reservoir properles and seal for permanent storage of CO2, capacity above 0,6 G Extensive seal available, no significant risk of leakage to the surface idenlfied SimulaLons indicate no CO2 migralon out of the complex for inilal 250 years Uncertainty in sand quality of the injeclon area - verificalon well needed Suggested development with a standard 4- slot template with two injeclon wells for redundancy purposes 31/5-2 6
TROLL COAST NEAR; Storage in the SogneWord FormaLon of the fault block east of Troll Storage Complex; stralgraphically defined at the top by Draupne FormaLon and bo_om by top Brent FormaLon laterally defined by major faults to the north, west and east, and by pinch out of the SogneMord FormaLon to the south 100 m contour interval Storage FormaGon depth map Top SogneWord Fm range from meter depth 7
TROLL KYSTNÆR ASSESSMENT Feasibility phase completed; 3 D seismic acquired, 2D from earlier surveys 2 wells within the complex (10 adjacent with 23m of core material) Geomodel built km2 Petrophysical, fault and seismicity studies Dynamic modeling and simulalons Conclusions; CO2 can be safely stored, capacity of 1 G tons Excellent storage properles injeclvity No impact on other commercial aclviles Some risk linked to the eastern fault zone at large volumes and pressure Evident of pressure decline from Troll ProducLon Low seismic aclvity in the area Plume aaer 500 years Seismisk aklvitet 8

THE NORWEGIAN CCS STUDY - NCCS Sites with CO2 emissions > 400 kt/yr sites were qualified 5 sites found relevant for further study Gassnova to fund up to 5, full value chain CCS feasibility studies NegoGaGons in progress Contract awards expected this year Study duragon of about half a year Svalbard is a special case (large pilot??) Page 10
STATOIL CONTRACT JOHANSEN Contractor; experienced North Sea operator State secures data for future operator/interest owner Matures storage to a DG2 level (feasibility and concept selecgon) Sufficiently early for investment decision in 2016 and injeclon start- up 2020 Award of Operatorship, Mongstad storage contract and license in 2014 Contract deliverables; Review of exislng documentalon Assessment of storage qualificalon and maturity (gap analyses) UpdaLng and improvement of necessary studies RecommendaLon of verificalon well and further progress plan 11
OVER ALL PLAN FULL SKALE CCS MONGSTAD (T&L) Storage must be coordinated with CCM (capture) at DG3 Gassnova to secure progress ungl operator is appointed CCM DG2 DG3 T&L - Gassnova responsible Contract Statoil T&L - Operatør responsible Operator`s work program Project Development MPE s award process operator to be apointed (contract/license) 12
WHERE ARE WE NOW? Developing North Sea saline aquifers at a five- year horizon NER 300 UK compeggon Mongstad and more 1. FIX the ETS or replace it with something that works 2. Focus on storage (lead Gme, up- front risk and money) 3. Revise EU DirecGve to become viable 4. Build strategy for North Sea area 5. Engage engre value chain players in storage. 6. Develop 1-2 very large North Sea aquifer storages and make these available to European eminers, e.g. in The Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Norway, Denmark. 13
HOW TO DEVELOP OFFSHORE SALINE AQUIFER STORAGE It is very expensive to carry out ac<vi<es in the deep offshore Cost can be reduced by developing large- scale storage which can take CO2 from many sources (e.g. for Mongstad) Flow and injecgon tests can be conducted in nearby oil and gas wells. Cores can be obtained in the same manner for reservoirs as well as cap rocks (e.g. Sleipner) More to be idengfied in the aqernoon session 14
SLEIPNER: 17 YRS OF SALINE AQUIFER CO 2 STORAGE Lessons learned from Sleipner and Snöhvit: CO2 storage works; provides learning & builds confidence Norwegian offshore CO2 tax is efficient unlike the ETS Same operator along CCS value chain Well established regulalons low risk Photo: Statoil Page 15
THE NCS AS A STORAGE HUB The Norwegian ConLnental Shelf has the potenlal to store large amounts of CO2 From Norway and from Europe for storage and for use

GASSNOVA MANDATE The objecgve of Gassnova s planning work is to ensure a transportagon and storage solugon to be in place by the Gme the planned full- scale Mongstad capture plant becomes operagonal. This would, as we know it today, require an integrated FID proposal (including capture, transportagon and storage) to be presented to Parliament no later than 2016 Informal transla6on of Gassnova Mandate
STORAGE SITE AVAILABILITY STATUS v Johansen fm: evaluated by Gassnova and considered suitable for storage, no interest from industrial players, potenlal conflict with hydrocarbon produclon v Troll Kystnær: evaluated by Gassnova, suitable for storage, interest shown by industrial players, possible conflict with hydrocarbon exploralon v Utsira Sør: evaluated by Gassnova and considered suitable for storage, no interest from industrial players v SE Aquifer: evaluated by Gassnova and possibly suitable for storage, interest shown by industrial players v Depleted gas fields: currently no interest idenlfied: potenlal fields not relinquished v EOR & CCS, CCUS: no current projects known for the Lmeline v Other potengal areas or sites (relinquished and with data access). Doubrul if Lmeline can be met; li_le or no interest shown by industrial players 22
