Brief presenta4on of CDER
CDER missions: To conduct oriented applied research, technological development and innova;on in the field of Renewable Energy (solar, wind, geothermal and bioenergy) capable to find solu;ons, which could significantly contribute to the fulfillment of important needs of Algerian to sustainable and clean energy.
CDER vision To be a research centre of excellence in the domain of Renewable Energy with regional and interna;onal outreach. To make the renewable energy technology both affordable and profitable to popula;ons even those living in remote areas.
Brief history of CDER The first biggest solar oven in the world has been made in the site of CDER in CDER was a Solar Sta4on. CDER starts to act as a research centre in Now it contains three research units: ü Unit for Development of Solar Equipment, Tipaza, created in ü Unit of Research in Applied Renewable Energy, Ghardaia, created in ü Unit of Research in Renewable Energy in Saharan Medium, Adrar, created in Some numbers: - Staff: ~850 (~400 researchers) - Budget (public): ~25 M$
CDER: Na4onal Research Centre Unité de Développement des Equipements Solaires Unité de Recherche Appliquée en Energies Renouvelables Unité de Recherche en Energies Renouvelables en Milieu Saharien

Algeria s Assets and Challenges ü Abundant sunshine (more than 3000 hours/year ) and wind; ü The biggest African, Arab and Mediterranean country (a total area of 2,381,740 sq km), North: 18%, Sahara: 82% ü Available land close to roads and transmission grids, close to Europe; ü Among the biggest oil and gas reserves worldwide, Among the fastest growing electricity consump;on in the world ü Mainly due to popula;on growth (2 nd populated Arab country auer Egypt, rapid urbaniza;on and economic growth). Popula;on: 39.5 millions (2014) ü Mediterranean cost: 1200 Km ü Popula;on grow rate: 1.9% ü Climate: arid to semi- arid ü Average of rainfall falling per year: 89 mm per year ü GDP growth rate: ~ 3.10% ü High energy intensity ü Mainly because of fuel subsidies
