1 Presentation 8 Session 3 ANSTO Nuclear Medicine: Reliable and Timely Mo-99 Supply Globally Jayne Senior General Manager, ANSTO Nuclear Medicine Pty Ltd (ANM) Biography Jayne Senior is General Manager for ANSTO Nuclear Medicine (ANM) Pty Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) based in Sydney, Australia. Jayne is responsible for the overall management of both the current ANSTO Mo-99 business, as well as ANM, which is currently in the final stages of completion. Jayne was educated in the UK and holds an honours degree in Genetics, as well as two masters degrees in Clinical Genetics and Bio-Aeronautics. After a short period in research, Jayne moved into business and has held senior positions at director and executive level. She has worked across many markets and countries, within global multi-national as well as private companies operating in highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals and food Abstract ANSTO is in the latter stages of completion of a new Mo-99 manufacturing plant at its Lucas Heights Facility in Australia. Designed with an anticipated capacity of 3500 six-day Curies of Mo-99 per week, this new facility will contribute significantly to increased reliability of Mo- 99 supply globally. Furthermore, the facility has been designed to maximise production at peak demand times. This allows Mo-99 supply to best match customer requirements at the peak times in the week when it is required. In doing this, decay and therefore waste are both reduced. Key features of the new plant are LEU technology, utilisation of proven Mo-99 production technology and effective waste and environmental emissions control. Physical construction of the new facility is now finished, with commissioning planned for the latter half of Routine supply of Mo-99 globally is expected early A description of the project, the key design features and its current status will be provided.
