4 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Reporting Period This report outlines the methodologies, results and interpretations of dust monitoring carried out at The City Bin Co. Ltd. waste transfer station at Carrowmoneash, Oranmore, County Galway for the first quarter of 2017 (January 1 st March 31 st ). The monitoring and reporting are required under Schedule D and Schedule E of the transfer station s Waste License (License No. W ). The annual schedule of environmental monitoring at the facility for 2017 is shown in Table 1.1. Ltd. waste transfer station is located in the townland of Carrowmoneash, Oranmore, Co. Galway, approximately 140 metres east of the N18 (Galway Limerick) National Primary Road, 420 metres north of the N6 (Galway Dublin) Dual Carriageway and approximately 30 metres north of the Galway Dublin railway line. Other facilities surrounding the waste transfer station include the Galway Metal Company, Galway Oil Depot Site and a property previously owned by Steelforms Ltd which is now occupied by Greenway who are an international construction company. The Deerpark Industrial Estate and a number of commercial premises are located west of the waste transfer station, on the opposite the side of the N18. McCarthy Keville O Sullivan Ltd. 5 2 DUST MONITORING 2.1 Methodology Total dust deposition was measured at the site using Bergerhoff gauges, as specified in the German Engineering Institute Standard VDI 2119 Measurement of Dustfall Using the Bergerhoff Instrument (Standard Method). Samples were collected at three fixed locations: D1, D2 and D3, as shown on Figure 1 during Q The purpose of dust sampling is to assess the total depositional dust impact in the vicinity of the site. The jars containing the dust samples were submitted to Complete Laboratory Solutions, Rosmuc, Co. Galway for analysis. 2.2 Total Dust Deposition Results Dust monitoring results are shown in Table 2.1 below. The dust jars were set up at each location on 17 th January 2017 and removed on 16 th February 2017 and sent to Complete Laboratory Solutions, Rosmuc, Co Galway for laboratory analysis. The EPA however recommends a maximum level of 350 mg/m 2 /day of dust deposition when measured according to TA Luft standard, which includes both soluble and insoluble matter (i.e. EPA compliance monitoring is based on the TA Luft Method). The 350mg/m2/day limit is set in Schedule C.2 of the Waste License. The values presented in Table 2.1 show that total depositional dust levels measured at D1, D2 and D3 monitoring locations during the first quarter of 2017 were below the 350 mg/m 2 /day limit value which indicates that nuisance levels of dust do not occur at the waste transfer station site.
