1 DISCHARGE DATA SUMMARY REPORT 2015

2 INTRODUCTION H&M understands that health and environment are two of the most important components in human life. We always eager to make our products in environmental friendly and healthy ways. In this regard, we have been paying significant effort in minimizing the use of hazardous chemicals in the manufacture of our products, ensuring product safety and safe working places, and minimizing the discharge of hazardous chemicals to the environment. In order to achieve these goals, we have committed to eliminate the hazardous chemicals in our supply chain by To have better understanding of the situation of hazardous chemicals discharge in factories, H&M carried out detailed studies to determine the presence of 11 priority chemical groups (121 analytes) in incoming water and discharged waste water every year since The data obtained were openly accessible by public (the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE), In 2014, we continued to carry out this study in order to obtain updated information on hazardous chemical discharge. This study involved five major production countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Cambodia and Indonesia. The detailed methods and results of this study are presented in this report.

3 METHODOLOGY VERIFICATION OF WASTEWATER DISCHARGED Objective: This study is to determine whether 11 priority chemicals groups are discharged from factories by on-site sampling and quantitative analysis PROCEDURE 11 PRIORITY CHEMICALS 3 Collect water samples at factories 1 Send collected water samples to testing laboratories for 11 chemical tests Issue test reports for 11 chemical test results of collected water samples Disclose the test results in the IPE platform 1. Alkylphenols (APs) & Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APEOs), 2. Azo Dyes, 3. Brominated and Chlorinated Flame Retardants, 4. Chlorinated solvents, 5. Chlorobenzenes, 6. Chlorophenols, 7. Organotin, 8. Phthalates, 9. Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs), 10. Total heavy metal, 11. 5 OVERVIEW OF WATER TEST RESULTS Incoming water samples Out of 121 analytes tested, 24 analytes were found in the Incoming water samples Aim: To verify if 11 chemical groups are present in the water samples Within the 11 chemical groups, we tested 121 analytes at 50 factories 11 groups 121 analytes 50 Discharge water samples Out of 121 analytes tested, 39 analytes were found in the discharged waste water samples These 24 analytes belong to 7 chemical groups These 39 analytes belong to 9 chemical groups 9 These groups are: 1. Chlorobenzenes 2. Chlorinated Solvents 3. Chlorophenols 4. Phthalates 5. SCCPs 6. Heavy Metals 7. 6 OVERVIEW OF WATER TEST RESULTS According to the results obtained, 9 chemical groups (39 chemical analytes) out of 11 chemical groups (121 chemical analytes) were found in discharged wastewater. Phthalates and Heavy metals were commonly detected in both incoming and discharged water samples. There were 3 chemicals (Azo, Organotin and Chromium VI) mainly originated from manufacturing processing The presence of different chemical groups in incoming and discharges waste water of factories CHEMICALS DETECTED 1. Many chemicals detected in discharged wastewater could be originated from both incoming water and manufacturing process. ii. Azo dyes and Organotin were mainly produced from manufacturing.

7 Disclosure of discharge data to Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) platform Each factory unit was required to fill in the chemical test data into a data form issued by IPE. The filled data form was sent to BVCPs for cross-check and finally uploaded to the IPE platform by factories. All discharge results of 50 production units are now available in IPE platform: The uploaded data is freely accessible by public.

8 OUR ACTIONS H&M will continue to pay significant effort to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals in our supply chain. We will continue to: Work closely with our suppliers to develop good chemical management systems Closely monitor our suppliers on the implementation of chemical management systems. Enhance collaboration with chemical industry to find best available chemicals (Positive lists) to substitute the hazardous chemicals Encourage the substitution of hazardous chemicals by promoting and publishing the lists of best available chemicals (Positive Lists ) in our supplier portal and company websites ( Keep our Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) up-to-date in order to ensure the comprehensiveness of the zero-discharge scheme Enhance our transparency of hazardous chemical discharge by encouraging more factories to disclose their chemical discharge data in public platforms
