Context in Vietnam In order to implement Viet Nam s commitments on sustainable development, the Prime Minister has issued the Decision No. 622 / QD TTg dated 10/5/2017 on the National Action Plan (NAP) to implement the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. In this Decision, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with other ministries, sectors, localities and relevant agencies in developing and promulgating the SDG s statistical indicator system in 2018 as the latest.

The global framework of statistical indicators for monitoring was adopted on March 20, 1917 with 232 indicators. Metadata for each indicator needs to be clarified for comparison and nationalization. Report on the relevance and feasibility of global SDG indicators to monitor sustainable development in the country and include those indicators in the national SDG indicators framework. Activities that need to be implemented 2.1. Conduct initial assessments on the relevance, availability and feasibility of global SDGs indicators in Viet Nam 2.2. Conduct detailed assessments on the relevance and feasibility of data disaggregation of the global SDGs indicators in Viet Nam, including: Assess the feasibility of every level of data disaggregation based on the recommendations of UN Statistical Commission; Identify the roadmap and level of support for each indicator (if any). Status and technical support needed Already reviewed the feasibility and availability of data on the global SDG indicators in Viet Nam (UNDP supported this; UNSD also sent international experts to Vietnam to support this activity). The review was conducted on the list of 230 indicators in However, the review has been only conducted at indicator level, not yet conducted on every details. Organize technical seminars with relevant ministries and agencies on SDG targets to: Assess the statistical capacity/readiness of ministries/sectors towards the collection and compilation of assigned SDGs data; Identify options to overcome challenges in the ministries/sectors statistical system; Identify methods for collecting data on SDGs implementation. Status and technical support needed This activity has not been implemented yet. However, in the implementation of statistical activities, we have discussed with some ministries such as MOH, MOLISA, MOET, Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), Vietnam Social Security (VSS), MARD Under the framework of the project with support from UNICEF and UNFPA

10 4. The planed activities Mustdo/beachieved objectives 3. Develop a system of statistical indicators on sustainable development of Viet Nam Activities that need to be implemented 3.1. Develop a list of statistical indicators on Viet Nam s sustainable development including: Indicators for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of Decision No. 622/QD TTg dated 10 May, 1917 by the Prime Minister on the NAP on Sustainable Development; Indicators for monitoring and evaluation at the global level 3.2. Develop the contents of the statistical indicators system on sustainable development (according to the list of statistical indicators on sustainable development) Nationalize international metadata Status and technical support needed This activity is still underway and the list is expected to be submitted to the Minister for issuance in Under the framework of UNFPA and UNICEF supported projects to GSO, specific supports for as below: UNFPA shall support the development of indicators related to population, reproductive health, family planning, etc..; UNICEF shall supports the development of indicators related to mothers and children. The followings are the fields which do not yet have support plans : + Gender and gender equality; + People with disabilities; ethnic minority + Fields related to data collection through new collection forms such as use of administrative data, big data

Disseminate the way/methods of using sustainable development indicators in monitoring & evaluating the implementation of SDGs in Vietnam Develop a handbook on monitoring the implementation of VSDGs Under the technical assistance from UNICEF-supported project 5. Develop & update the statistical indicator system of ministries/sectors and make it consistent and synchronous with the statistical indicators on sustainable development 5.1. The national statistical indicators on gender (This will be done in 2018 by GSO) 5.2. The national statistical indicators on Vietnamese youth (2018) 5.3. Statistical indicators on green growth; 5.4. Develop & update the statistical indicator system of ministries/sectors and make it consistent and synchronous with the statistical indicators on sustainable development Activities that need to be implemented For these indicator systems, it is important to : Conduct a detailed assessment on the relevance & feasibility of every clarification of global-level indicators in Viet Nam Review, identify and select relevant and feasible statistical indicators to be included in the set of statistical indicators on Viet Nam s sustainable development. Study & develop a plan for collecting information through integrating the collection into existing surveys or new surveys. Pilot the use of administrative data for statistical purposes Status and technical support needed On going
