4 A. Executive Summary Woodland Community College and Clear Lake Campus has the opportunity to address a number of strategic priorities that may yield improvements to employee morale. There is an opportunity to build on the obvious strengths at the institution including the pride employees have in their work and feelings that work is both rewarding and valuable to the institution. Issues around policy development should be addressed. Developing, documenting and following procedures for orienting new employees is seen as a particular challenge. In a broader sense developing written policies and procedures for operational processes would be particularly important to staff. Communicating changes to policies and procedures is a challenge identified by faculty. Developing inclusive planning processes could help build shared purpose. Careful planning is recognized as important, but does not have widespread satisfaction. Planning should certainly include the voices of students, staff and faculty (particularly adjunct). This could go some way to increasing the sense of teamwork and cooperation. Enrollment management issues emerge as priorities. Planning could be used to implement priorities related to enrollment management issues such as the attraction and retention of students and improving community relations. Enrollment management planning should look to prioritize students in existing geographic areas Resources are seen as over-stretched and should be re-evaluated. There was widespread recognition that both staff and fiscal resources are not adequate to do jobs. This may indicate excessive priorities and initiatives all competing for similar resources. 1
5 B. Respondent profile Over half of respondents from Woodland Community College and Clear Lake Campus were full time. The majority of respondents had been with the institution for over 6 years with almost one third in the 11 to 20 year category. Faculty made up almost two thirds of respondents with less than one third being staff. The remainder were administrator. Overall there were 62 valid responses.
