2 Course Overview O&G exploration is a series of capital-intensive activities, where data results are continuously affecting succeeding operations from the onset. It is only necessary that even from the initial stage of seismic surveying and processing, explorationists must acquire good data sets, as these consequently affect further subsurface evaluation and other E&P business decisions later on. This course will cover both seismic acquisition procedures as well as data processing methodologies in application to various complex environments and case studies. They will learn the tools available in the industry to ensure quality control on the conduct of the survey and the type of data acquired. Theories will be presented along with practical exercises on situational cases in application of the core skills of data acquisition. Delegates will also learn about the best practices and the new technologies available for seismic data acquisition and how this can be applied to their own operations. Furthermore, delegates will be able to choose an optimal processing workflow with interrelated processing steps and parameters, all impacting the resulting data quality, cost and time to delivery. They will gain a sound knowledge of processing theory and current best practices in data processing. Specialized cases of various complex environments will be provided. Advanced processing methods focus on specialized studies involving data integration of geological details, well logging data, and petrophysical data will also be covered. All steps in the workflow are discussed with an eye to the theoretical foundation, alternative implementations, assumptions, strengths and weaknesses, critical parameter choices and QC aspects. They will have the key knowledge to execute a seismic processing project under experienced supervision. They can entertain a meaningful dialogue with contractors to select an optimal processing flow and parameters, and can exercise basic QC. Attendees can better liaise and collaborate with staff in neighboring Geoscience sub-disciplines to better relay data information. JAAP MONDT Geophysical Consultant Exploration & Production Technical Services (EPTS, Netherlands) Jaap Mondt (1947) obtained his Bachelors in Geology at the State University of Leiden after which he went to Utrecht to study Theoretical Geophysics. His PhD dealt with the determination of the Following his PhD in Utrecht on Full wave theory and the structure of the lower mantle, he joined petro-physical and geological input. During his subsequent 3-year stay with Shell Expro in London he interpreted seismic data from the Central North Sea area. He was also actively involved in seismic experiments from drilling rigs and production platforms. Subsequently he joined Shell Rijswijk in 1977 to do research in Quantitative Interpretation based on seismic, petro-physical and geological data. After a posting in London where he worked on the interpretation of data of the North Sea Central Graben, he returned to Rijswijk to head a Quantitative Interpretation Team, developing 3D Interpretation Workstation methods. This was followed by an assignment to supervise Contractor Seismic Processing: software as well as actual projects. The next job was Course Director Geophysics in the Shell Learning Centre. At the same time he was for 5 years part-time Professor in Applied Geophysics at the University Utrecht in The Netherlands. After 4 years he went back to Rijswijk to work on applying Potential Field methods (Gravity, Magnetics and Electro-Magnetics). retirement he worked in Research on Electromagnetic methods (Controlled Source EM and Magneto-Telluric). After retiring from Shell he founded his own company (Breakaway), providing courses and advice on the acquisition and processing of geophysical data (seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data. Currently he gives many courses at Universities as well as international and national energy companies.
