1 WHICH TRAINING APPROACH IS RIGHT FOR YOUR COMPANY? WEB-BASED TRAINING VS COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING Deciding the right format for you is usually easy. Over 90% of our customers use our web-based training. However, if you are a workgroup located at one site or a small company with only one location, Computer- Based Training could be more cost effective. If you are an Individual looking for professional development training, you definitely want to use web-based training. It is easy to get up and running, you don t have any software to install and it is much more cost effective than our computer-based training. If you are a multi-site corporation, the choice is also easy. Web-based training is going to give you the most flexibility, will keep all of your records in one place and will enable you to use the training you need, when you need it. The decision gets a little more difficult if you are located at one site. Key factors to consider include the number of courses you want to offer, the number of people you have to train, if you want people to access the training off-site and whether or not you want to get your IT department involved with software installation. Following are advantages and disadvantages of each approach. But, we encourage you to give us a call to discuss your specific needs and situation. 3 WEB-BASED TRAINING HOW IT WORKS Web-based training is accessed over the internet. No matter where you are in the world, each time you log on you are brought to your own personal training records, even if you log on from a different computer or connection each time. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Advantages Access to training anytime, anywhere an internet connection is available. An unlimited number of learners can use the training at the same time. Access to all programs; pay only for what you use. Immediate access to new programs as they become available. Content is always up to date; no upgrading necessary. No maintenance and support costs with a current subscription. Disadvantages Cost per learner per course is a fixed price, but quantity discounts are available. Access to training ends if the subscription expires. Must set-up learners in the LMS. Cannot be used for classroom training, unless each learner in the classroom is an active and valid user in the system. (see license agreement) HOW IT IS PRICED Web-based training is sold on a per-user per-course basis. April 21, 2015 Page 3

4 COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING - SINGLE COMPUTER HOW IT WORKS The course is installed on one computer. Either the course files are installed onto that machine or they can run off of the Single Computer if space is an issue. This approach is ideal for training labs or when a dedicated training computer is available. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Advantages Can train an unlimited number of employees. Can use with a projector for classroom training at the licensed site run from the licensed computer at no additional cost. (see license agreement) No cost for upgrades if maintenance and support is maintained. Disadvantages Can train only one person at a time. Can use on only one computer. Must purchase a license for each site where the program will be used. A site is defined as a physical location. Ongoing maintenance & support agreement payments (optional). 5 COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING - LAN VERSION HOW IT WORKS The course files are installed on the Local Area Network and any computer (with access to the network server) at the physical site can access the training. Network versions are sold based on number of concurrent users. IMPORTANT This is a SITE License and cannot be used on a WAN or via any other means to broadcast beyond the physical location of the SITE where the courseware is licensed. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Advantages Can use with any computer on the LAN. Can train multiple people at once (with concurrent user option). Fixed cost (before maintenance and support). Can use with a projector for classroom training at the licensed site at no additional cost. (see current license agreement) Disadvantages LOCAL area network ONLY CAN BE USED AT one PHYSICAL LOCATION. Cannot be used on a WIDE AREA NETWORK across multiple physical locations. Must purchase a license for each site. Ongoing annual maintenance & support agreement payments. Must install program on your server. Updates must be installed on your server. HOW IT IS PRICED Courses are purchased on a course-by-course basis. Network users seats are purchased separately. You can purchase Standard concurrent user seats for a specific course OR you can purchase Power User concurrent user seats that can be used across all of your courses. POWER USER NETWORK SEATS VS STANDARD NETWORK SEATS Our Power User Program allows you to purchase user licenses that are NOT course-specific. Concurrent Power Users can offer a cost-effective approach depending on your situation. Here are a couple of scenarios to further explain the difference between standard and power network users: April 21, 2015 Page 5

6 Situation 1: You only want to use one of our courses but you have an ambitious training schedule and therefore anticipate needing to have five concurrent users on the course at any one time. Recommendation: The most cost-effective approach here is to purchase the Basic SPC course files and 5 standard concurrent network users. You would not get any benefit from the Power User approach. Situation 2: You want to train your employees in both Basic SPC and Advanced SPC. You don't anticipate a heavy load of learners at any one time and figure that one concurrent user will be adequate. Recommendation: You could go with either one Power User that can be used for both courses or a Standard Network User for each program...the cost will be the same. However, it would be smarter to go with a Standard Network user for each because then you could have one learner using Basic SPC and one user using Advanced SPC. With the Power Network User you could have one learner on either Basic SPC OR one learner on Advanced SPC. Situation 3: You are a small organization and want to train your employees on several of our courses and may be adding more courses in the future. Recommendation: Your best approach would be to purchase the course files for the course you wish to have available to your employees and then purchase a Power Network User. In addition to this being the most cost-effective approach, in the future, you can add to your courses by just purchasing the course files because your Power Network User can be used for your new courses as well. Situation 4: You have a lot of people to train, but plan on providing the training in phases. So for example, the first two months everyone goes through Basic SPC. Then, the next two months everyone goes through FMEA Training, and so on. Recommendation: We would recommend that you purchase the course files for the course you wish to offer. Then purchase the number of Power Network Users that you think you will be needing (let's say that number is 10). So, for months one and two you can have up to 10 people at one time training on Basic SPC. Then, for months 3 and 4 you can have up to 10 people training on FMEA Training, and so on. 7 Network Users is still a substantial investment, it is much more cost effective than purchasing 10 Standard Network Users for each course. Upgrading from Standard to Power Users If you have purchased Standard Network Users and now feel that Power Network Users would be more advantageous for your situation, please call us ( ) and we will work out a trade-in deal for you. Upgrading from a Single Computer Version If you have purchased the Single Computer version of our courses, but now feel that it would be beneficial to upgrade to a network version, we can easily upgrade your existing files to a network version. Please call us for details on what you will need to do for the upgrade. LAN-BASED TRAINING LIBRARIES LAN-Based Training Libraries are an excellent value for organizations because they combine multiple courses (typically four courses) and include a Power Network User which means you can run the training on your local area network so that the training can be accessed from any desktop. Power Network Users can be shared across courses. With the one Power Network User that comes with the LAN-Based Training Library your employees can access any of the training courses. If you need to have more than one learner taking the training at a time you can purchase additional Power Network Users. April 21, 2015 Page 7
