Tahoe Regional Planning Agency This unique bi-state Agency is charged with regional planning, development oversight, implementation of environmental improvement projects and restoration programs for the Region. Under the general direction of the Long Range and Transportation Planning Division Manager, this position will manage a full range of complex professional planning duties related to long range land use and environmental planning. The position will supervise four professional planners and will be responsible for the quality of their work. In addition to supervising staff planners, the Principal Planner will complete the most complex planning projects at TRPA, including major reviews and updates of the TRPA Regional Plan and Code. The position will also complete a variety of special projects and research, oversee consultants, advise and mentor planners, coordinate directly with other agencies and TRPA divisions, and provide staff assistance to the Division Manager and Executive staff. The selected applicant for this position must possess broad knowledge, skills, and experience, and carry out necessary activities without managerial direction except as new or unusual circumstances arise. Judgment is required both in interpreting established policies, goals, and objectives, and in applying concepts, plans, and strategies. Very strong written and oral communication skills are essential. 4 Upcoming Issues and Priorities In preparation for the recruitment of the Principal Planner, TRPA identified the following issues and priorities the successful candidate will be expected to manage and advance: Identifying and completing strategic updates to the TRPA Regional Plan and Code Helping to create a Sustainable Recreation Plan balancing people and the environment Working with local governments to implement the Regional Plan at the local level Working with partners to increase the supply of housing Participating in agency-wide initiatives to update standards, improve processes, and accelerate implementation activities Minimum Qualifications Requirements include a Bachelor s Degree in planning, public administration, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field, plus seven or more years of related professional planning or equivalent education and experience. A Masters or Doctorate Degree may substitute for two years of planning experience. Two or more years of supervision/management experience required. Desired Qualifications Degree from an accredited Planning Program by the Planning Accreditation Board AICP certification Compensation and Benefits The salary range for the Principal Planner position is $74,541 - $111,752. The TRPA has a generous benefit package and includes the following: 27 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year for personal time off, with step increases up to 35 days after sixteen years of employment 10 days of management compensation time-off (MCTO) to be used annually 12 days of paid holidays annually Money Purchase Plan. In lieu of Social Security, the Agency contributes a dollar amount equal to 8% of the employee s annual salary toward retirement. This plan has immediate participation and 100% vesting Group Health Insurance. The Agency contributes 100% of employee only coverage (and subsidized dependent coverage) for our Medical (PPO, HSA), Dental, and Vision Care Plans Employer Paid Life Insurance and Short-Term Disability Insurance Long-Term Disability Insurance is voluntary and employee-paid 457b Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan (Voluntary) Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (Voluntary) Flexible work schedules Transit /commuter passes Dog friendly office, bring your dog to work!
