2 WHO WE ARE Elevation Networks (EN) is a multi-award winning youth employment charity that develops the leadership potential in young people from underrepresented backgrounds. We partner with outstanding employers and stakeholders to create diverse career opportunities. EN works with young people aged 11-24, with a specific focus on these are groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the labour market. Ethnic minorities Women Young people from low socio-economic backgrounds Students from non-russell group universities Young people Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) or from other challenging backgrounds such as youth justice experience. OUR HISTORY Elevation Networks started in 2006 at Brunel University and officially launched in Since the start we have endeavoured to make a difference in the lives of young people. We became a registered charity in 2009 with an objective of relieving unemployment amongst young people. The charity has since expanded significantly in the short period of time with a growing membership of 30,000 students and recent graduates. 3 ABOUT THE PROGRAMME The National Citizen Service (NCS) aims to be a rite of passage for 16 and 17 year olds and to promote a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society. The NCS Programme is focused on 4 key outcomes for the young people that participate: Social mixing: improving attitudes towards others from different backgrounds, strengthening and broadening social and support networks. Community involvement: increasing willingness to engage and help out, acknowledge and develop an awareness of influence in their local communities. Teamwork, communication and leadership: increasing confidence in meeting new people, putting forward new ideas, and trying new things. Transition: facilitating the transition to adulthood and improving attitudes towards work, education and training. Elevation Networks will be delivering the NCS programme for 16 and 17 year olds living, working or studying in Brighton, Hertfordshire and Nottinghamshire until The delivery cycles are divided into spring, summer and autumn seasons. PROGRAMME PHASES The National Citizen Service is divided into four phases: Phase One (Outward Bound Residential): Full-time (4 nights, 5 days) residential programme away from participants local community, with a focus on teamwork and outdoor physical challenges. This provides an opportunity for personal and social development through a series of physical and mental challenges to push participants out of their comfort zones. Phase Two (Community Residential): Full-time (4 nights, 5 days) residential based in participants home community, with a focus on developing new skills and serving groups within that community. Teams should use a shared passion to build on their teamwork and project management skills, whilst developing an interest in community service. Phase Three (Social Action project): Facilitate and enable participants to design a social action project which will leave a positive legacy in consultation with the local community. It involves 60 hours of planning and delivery (30 hours for each) of a social action project must be planned and delivered around the availability of the team. Graduation: Attendance at the relevant Graduation Event, and ensure maximum attendance from the team members, and manage their behaviour according to the participant.

4 PROGRAMME LEADER Contract Length: Paid Temporary contract Start Date: (Various in summer 2018) Please see the Wave Dates section Length off Employment: 4 weeks (weekday only) and 1 Graduation Event Location: Brighton/Hertfordshire/Nottinghamshire Reporting To: Programme Manager ABOUT THE ROLE Programme Leaders are responsible for the overall running of a particular wave. This includes the day-to-day management of seasonal staff, and the pastoral care and development of up to 120 young people. The Programme Leader will liaise with the Regional Programme Manager on a daily basis on the running of the wave; managing incidents, ensuring good quality sessions are run, managing behavioural challenges and working with external stakeholders where necessary. Programme Leaders would ve ideally had experience working with young people in the age group or facilitating residential programmes. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the day to day running of a wave of up to 120 young people Run ice breaker sessions and impromptu games for the whole wave Manage the timetable of activities and events for the wave Ensure that key policies such as Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity are being put into action Oversee the quality of workshops and guided reflection sessions, ensuring that they are of a high standard Uphold NCS Ethos and key principles Ensure that compliance material is fully filled in by seasonal staff (including NCS sign in sheets and incident reporting) Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all young people are engaged and fully participating in activities Represent NCS and Elevation Networks during visits to community and/or charity partners Report to the Programme Leader and/or Programme Manager about any challenging behaviour and the progress of the team Resolve incidents of challenging behaviour or any other disruption to programme delivery Please note that this job description serves only as a guideline for your responsibilities and is not a definitive list. As with any small, developing organisations, staff roles can be subject to change to meet new priorities and therefore you may, on occasions, be required to take on other responsibilities as necessary.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential: A passion and enjoyment for working with young people Experience working with year olds either in a youth work or educational environment) Emotional Intelligence Ability to read situations and react accordingly An understanding of the needs of year olds and how to engage them Experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment Experience of managing a staffing team in a challenging environment Excellent communication and team building skills Ability to handle challenging situations and problem-solving skills Ownership ability to take ownership of tasked areas of responsibility Public speaking Ability to speak to large audiences in an engaging manner Desirable: Previous knowledge/experience of the NCS programme Experience of working directly with young people with disabilities A current first aid qualification A recent and valid DBS certificate (enhanced or standard) A youth work qualification Previous training in child protection or safeguarding This role will require an enhanced level DBS check (formerly known as CRB) and an understanding of safeguarding. TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to a group assessment or one to one interview (depending on the role you applied for). If you are subsequently offered a role on our programme, it is important to note that training is mandatory. Assessment and Training periods will take place over the following period: - Assessment: February to April Training: May 2018 Where possible, training will take place in the local area where you will be working. The final details of training will be shared with you if you successfully pass the assessment stage. All staff (including returning staff) must attend the full training.

6 WAVE DATES Each NCS programme in the summer will run for 4 weeks at a time. The selected 4 weeks are called waves. Should you be successful, you must be available to work for a full wave. We would not ordinarily grant permission for absences across these 4 weeks. Applicants should consider this when applying. All positions are regionally based and during the non-residential weeks travel and accommodation costs to the programme are not covered. Wave dates are to be confirmed, but we will be running programmes across Brighton, Hertfordshire and Nottingham between Monday 25 th June and Friday 24 th August You will also be required to work the graduation ceremony which normally takes place on an afternoon/evening in September.
