This module aims to increase student confidence in networking and relationship building essential for international success. The module focuses on the practical aspects of negotiation and conflict management in intercultural business contexts. Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: LO1 LO2 LO3 LO4 Apply the skills necessary for the successful practice of written, oral and non-verbal communication. Identify the differences in communication techniques employed in different cultures and how barriers to communication can be overcome. Develop networking strategies for personal and professional development. Describe the methods and techniques for engaging in negotiations and conflict avoidance/resolution in an intercultural business environment. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Individual and group presentations. Presentation critique. Written and Electronic Communication Business correspondence, business reports, effective use of electronic communication in business. International Communication Business communication styles in different cultures. Barriers to international communication and overcoming these barriers. Networking Networking skills. Networking on and offline. Effective Negotiation The negotiation process: preparation, relationship building, exchanging task related information, persuasion, concessions and agreement. The challenges of cross-cultural negotiation: understanding culture and negotiation styles. Conflict Management Conflict solving and the role of mediation: understanding options and cultural approaches to conflict resolution, mediation and dispute resolution.
