Here's a little about Seattle Aquarium and the position they are seeking to fill: About the organization: The Seattle Aquarium is owned by the City of Seattle and under nonprofit management. The Aquarium currently serves over 825,000 visitors and 40,000 schoolchildren and their teachers annually. Guided by its mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment, the Seattle Aquarium has a realistic plan for phased growth based on recordsetting attendance, membership and fundraising growth, an energized board of directors and professional management. The current annual budget is $16 million. Purpose: This position, under general supervision and in coordination with other departments (Aquarium facilities and engineering, life sciences/dive safety officers, human resources, etc.) plans, develops and implements the Seattle Aquarium s safety, health and security programs, ensuring the safety and security of both the public/guests and employees, as well as the physical building, grounds and vehicles. The safety and security manager is the representative for the Seattle Aquarium on compliance with various regulatory agencies (AZA Safety and Security, OSHA, the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, etc.), partners with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies, and is acting Section 504/accessibility coordinator. Essential functions: Provide leadership to promote a culture of safety that meets both the spirit and content of laws, regulation and standards for all Aquarium activities.

2 Develop, implement and administer policies, procedures and guidelines for WISHA/OSHA, L&I and AZA mandated programs in coordination with Aquarium facilities and engineering, life sciences/dive safety officers, events and human resources. Maintain and update employee safety handbook and all safety-related procedures. Ensure safety program consistently meets the needs of Aquarium activities 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Including, but not limited to, day-to-day Aquarium operations, after-hours events, night shifts, leased office space, etc. Oversee/lead investigation of all incidents, root cause analysis, corrective action item development and tracking for completion on a case-by-case basis. Oversee regular safety inspections, hazard assessments and internal workplace safety audits with an eye toward continuous improvement of the Aquarium safety standards and culture. Serve as team leader for safety committee and coordinate safety communications with team, management and staff. Together with safety committee, evaluate hazards listed/found and identify solutions to mitigate hazard. Track and manage open worker compensation cases with City of Seattle or L&I. Complete and track all incident/accident forms, reports and OSHA 300 log. Plan, coordinate, document and provide for all required and appropriate training. Including, but not limited to, new employee safety orientation, CPR/AED/first aid, hearing, PPE, fall restraint, enclosed spaces, and fire/emergency response. Responsible for adhering to AZA-established safety and security guidelines, and providing compliance documentation during AZA accreditation process. Will lead and document preparedness drills in accordance with AZA guidelines. Maintain and manage safety data sheet system for tracking inventory and handling of all Aquarium chemicals. Manage, plan and track safety and security annual budget. Main contact for contracted provider of security services. Supervise security staff while on site and ensure coverage; train and counsel security staff and their manager. Main contact for contracted provider of security cameras and access card entry system. Ensure all are working 24 hours per day/seven days per week. Investigate incidents as reported or requested, produce reports and archive security camera footage.

3 Main contact for Day Wireless provider of radios and repeaters. Ensure all are working 24 hours per day/seven days per week. Maintain radio inventory, oversee repairs and purchases. Main contact for Guardian Security monitors fire alarm and holdup alarm system. Ensure system is working 24 hours per day/seven days per week. Coordinate with facilities team when system is taken offline due to testing of the system or work being done throughout the facility that could set off the alarm. Oversee and manage distribution of Aquarium building keys and other secure locations. Maintain key inventory and employee key distribution lists. Responsible for overall Aquarium access control philosophy and enforcement. Oversee and manage first aid kits, first aid supplies and purchases. Coordinate Aquarium vehicle use policy, check-out procedure, accident/incident investigation including traffic infractions, and serve as liaison with insurance carrier. Coordinate with other internal departments, as mentioned above, to develop and implement emergency plans and policies, coordinate the fire safety program including evacuation and emergency response plans, and emergency supply kits. Additional responsibilities: Represent the Seattle Aquarium at meetings and conferences, during inspections, and in front of regulatory bodies providing advocacy, resources and education regarding safety and security. Work with other Aquarium staff on communicating emergent issues to the organization. Negotiate annual contract terms and conditions with safety- and security-related contracts as directed by the facilities manager. Provide excellent customer service to the public/guests, staff, contractors, etc. Update knowledge and skills through ongoing education/training. Perform other essential duties as assigned by the facilities manager. Skills, abilities and education and experience: B.S. degree in safety and health, or a related field. Minimum of five years related experience in progressively responsible roles. o Note: relevant combination of education, certifications and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

4 Experience in a similar facility preferred. Wide-ranging safety and security experience encompassing office, public institution, laboratory, animal, dive, etc. operations preferred. Effective interpersonal, verbal/written communication, presentation and report writing skills required. Collaboration is essential. Must be able to work effectively with all levels from CEO to front-line staff, volunteers, visitors, the public and contractors. Must have excellent leadership skills, initiative and judgment. Strong supervisory skills and experience. Must be able to lead and motivate employees in working as a team. Must be decisive and able to work in a guest-focused and constantly changing environment. Solution- and results-oriented; must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations while ultimately ensuring projects are completed fully and on time. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Able to document and track a large amount of data and information. Microsoft Office/Word/Excel/PowerPoint/project management skills. Work hours and location: This position works at the Seattle Aquarium on the waterfront in downtown Seattle. Normal work hours are 9am to 6pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Work hours vary as project demands require and will, at times, be on call. Required: Washington state driver s license, with a clean driving history. Pass criminal background check and motor vehicle records check. First aid/cpr certified.
