Choose one of the two following activity options to complete (in Part 1 & Part 2). Submit an essay, scrapbook, video or DVD following the guidelines in the How to submit for award consideration section below. How to get credit (Part 1): Choose 1 of the 2 following options to complete. Option 1: Diversity & Inclusion Training Programs Complete the Option 1 checklist on the form listing the types of diversity & inclusion training programs your associates have attended, and complete the short description. Option 2: Diversity & Inclusion at Work Does your team embrace diversity & inclusion on a regular basis? If so, we want to hear from you! In the space provided on the Diversity & Inclusion form, describe how your team brings the power of diversity & inclusion to your fellow teammates, clients and customers. Here are a couple of examples: Host a Customer Appreciation event. Make your team s event fun and exciting by creating a theme for the event and featuring menu items that go along with the team (i.e. County Fair or Cultural Event, like Cinco de Mayo). Use client surveys to help your team understand the needs of your client. Recognize teammates for their hard work and contributions to your team. 1
2 How to get credit (Part 2): Choose 1 of the 2 following options to complete. Option 1: Associate Innovation in Action Description of Activity: Would a new product or idea make daily work life easier? In this exercise, your team will have the opportunity to suggest a new product, idea or improve a current process that could make your daily duties easier, more efficient and/or reduce costs. A suggestion is an innovation which: Identifies a problem, potential problem or opportunity Presents a specific solution to the problem or potential problem Improves a current process Generates an idea or a process improvement that can be used company-wide In order to help your team create an Innovation in Action, your team may use any or all of the following resources: teammates, local library (encyclopedias, books etc.), newspapers, magazines or the internet. This innovation MUST be based on processes or activities within your daily duties at Compass Group. Create a recap of your Associate Innovation in Action activity, answering the following questions: 1. How many associates are on your team? 2. How many associates participated in this activity? 3. What information did your team use to complete this activity? 4. Describe in detail the daily duty (ies)/responsibility (ies) your team used to help create the Innovation in Action. 5. List and describe the significant benefits in at least 3 the following categories: Creating an inclusive workplace Saving money, time, material or resources Improving service, procedures, systems or methods Reducing costs, materials, handling or waste Increasing productivity 6. Describe how the diversity of your team helped create this Innovation in Action, how it can be used over a long period of time (sustainability) and deliver profitable growth. Option 2: Diversity & Inclusion at Work Description of Activity: Using Option 2 from How to get credit (Part 1), demonstrate in greater detail how your team brings the power of Diversity & Inclusion to your fellow teammates, clients and customers. Create a report answering the following questions: 1. How many associates are on your team? 2. What is the name and location of your department? 3. How many associates participated in this activity? 4. Describe in detail an average day for your team. Demonstrate how your team uses each value throughout the day. Give 3 examples maximum for each of the following values: --Openness, Trust and Integrity --Responsibility --Passion For Quality --Can-do --Win Through Teamwork 5. What did your team learn about the importance of teamwork and how did the diversity of your team make a difference during this exercise? 2
3 How to submit for award consideration: Submit your activity recap - along with a copy of the Diversity & Inclusion Form to April Morton, Community Relations Coordinator, by Friday, July 11, You may send your submission by to April at april.morton@compass-usa.com. If your submission cannot be sent electronically, deliver it to April on the 6th floor in Coliseum Centre, Bldg. Two. Acceptable items to submit are: An essay of 300 words describing the activity A scrapbook displaying examples of the activity (with photos, associate testimonials, etc.) A video or DVD displaying examples of the activity (with photos, associate testimonials, etc.) not to exceed 8 minutes. THE VIDEO OR DVD CANNOT BE CREATED AND/OR PRODUCED BY A PROFESSIONAL COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION. YOUR TEAM MUST CREATE AND/OR PRODUCE THE VIDEO OR DVD. Your team may only submit one item listed above. Any team sending more than 1 will be disqualified. 6 President s Five Jewel Award for Best Practices in Diversity & Inclusion Judging and Selection Process and Criteria Judging Process 1. Each Sector Diversity Action Council (if applicable) or Be-A-star committee will select their Sector s winner based on the criteria provided. Submissions are to be collected by the Sector Diversity Action Council or Committee. Each participating sector should have one sector winner (i.e. Morrison Five Jewel Award Winner). This submission will be judged with other sector submissions for the North American President s Five Jewel Award Winner. 2. Once a winner has been chosen, the Sector Diversity Action Council or Be-A-star committee will send the winning submission to Tameka Green, Diversity Generalist, no later than Wednesday, August 1, 2012 for judging the North American winner. 3. A Committee will decide who will receive the Compass Group North American President s Five Jewel Award. The North American winner will not be announced until the Be-A-star National Awards Celebration. 4. The CEO and/or CDO will announce the North American winner of the Compass Group s President s Five Jewel Award at the Be-A-star National Awards Celebration. The key elements of judging for the President s Five Jewel Award for Best Practices in Diversity & Inclusion are: Presentation of the submission Creativity in capturing the assigned concept(s) through photos, essays, etc. Level of participation by unit/department, through the team as well as involving clients How the assigned concept(s) impacted each unit/department The following suggested judging criteria and form is to be used by the Sector Diversity Action Council (DAC) for the President s Five Jewel Award. In the event the Sector Diversity Action Council cannot select the award winner for whatever reason, the sector Be-A-star committee may use the criteria and form. NOTE: Not all criteria may be relevant, based on the selected activity. The total possible score is 50 points. The winning sector s award submission must be sent to Tameka Green, Diversity Generalist, no later than Wednesday, August 1, President s Five Jewel Award Voting Ballot for SUBMISSIONS 6
7 Committed Leadership: Was the staff engaged? Partnering Did the unit/department collaborate with other community/client organizations? Communication Did the summarized portion of the activity reflect what was initially asked? Unique WOW factors Creativity Originality Transferable Results Did the unit/department completely answer each question? Were the overall goals of the project achieved? How sustainable is this achievement likely to be over the longer term? Education Sector (Chartwells School Dining Services, Flik Independent School Dining, and Chartwells Higher Education) 5. Compass Group Canada 6. Compass Group Corporate and Foodbuy 7.
