3 HK Mentorship Programme For individuals working in organisations that do not run IMechE accredited training schemes. Hong Kong Branch will allocate your IMechE registered mentor throughout your development. You are required to register with IMechE as an Associate Member. Improving the world through engineering 3
4 HK Mentorship Programme Register on the Supported Registration Scheme (SRS) and work with a mentor towards professional registration. Career Developer tool provides you with a central repository for all your professional development records (IPD & CPD) even if you move between companies It provides you with self-assessment, benchmarking and gap analysis tools It provides you with links to resources that can help you meet competences (in development) Use best practice to record your CPD by capturing reflective learning outcomes Improving the world through engineering 4

7 New Application Process For Chartered Engineer In response to feedback from our members, we have simplified the application process to make it more userfriendly and easier for applicants to complete. The first stage of the process is to complete our streamlined application form using our guidance notes. Download and save the application form to complete the form electronically. Improving the world through engineering 7
8 How can you check if your qualifications meet the requirements? Chartered Engineer (CEng) Typically a four-year accredited MEng degree or equivalent OR a three-year accredited BEng (Hons) degree plus an appropriate Master s programme or period of further learning Improving the world through engineering 8
9 How can you check if your qualifications meet the requirements? You may have a range of engineering qualifications that, at first glance, don t appear to meet the requirements for Membership and Registration. If that s the case, don t worry: we can review and assess your qualifications free of charge and with no commitment to Membership. 10 The application process 1. Check your qualifications (OK!) 2. Complete the Chartered Engineer Application Form electronically before printing. 3. Please make sure that the application has original signatures from the applicant and set support from two sponsors before it is sent to us. 4. Provide an application fee payment by credit card payments form. 5. Attach a photocopy of your degree certificate/transcript or University letter stating your full degree award. 6. Submit the application to HQs. 7. Prepare for Professional Review Interview. Improving the world through engineering 10
11 Chartered Engineer Application Form The form consists of 5 sections that you must complete: 1. About you - your personal and academic information and career summary 2. Personal Competence Statements - the UK-SPEC framework showing competences A-E (16 questions) 3. Organisation Chart 4. Development Action Plan 5. Sponsors Improving the world through engineering 11
12 1. About you Your personal and academic information and career summary detailing the roles you have held in the last five years, with your current/most recent role shown first. Improving the world through engineering 12
13 2. Personal Competence Statements the UK-SPEC framework showing competences A-E will be given and you must make statements which demonstrate your compliance with the competences and sub-competences. Please refer to the exemplars for further guidance. Improving the world through engineering 13

Personal Competence Statements Five Parts (total 16 questions) A: Optimise the application of technology (2 questions) B: Analysis and solution of problems (3 questions) C: Technical and commercial leadership (4 questions) D: Effective interpersonal skills (3 questions) E: Commitment to professional standards (4 questions) Please ensure that each of the five parts is approximately 400 words which is a total of 2,000 words for the 5 competencies. 19 2. Personal Competence Statements E: Commitment to professional standards (4 questions) E1: How have you complied with relevant codes of conduct? E2: How have you managed and applied safe systems of work? E3: How have you undertaken engineering activities in a way that contributes to sustainable development? 20 3. Organisation Chart You must submit an organisation chart of your current employment and indicate your position within the organisation. If you are not part of an organisation, you must describe your direct clients and who you report to. Improving the world through engineering 20
21 4. Development Action Plan this will demonstrate your on-going compliance with competence E and the Institution s by-laws featuring your short, medium and long term goals. Short term goals: 6 12 months Medium term goals: months Long term goals: 3 5 years Keep your goals short and concise. Each answer should be no longer than 50 words that s 150 in total. 22 5. Two Sponsors First sponsor Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council Second sponsor Your line manager or another professional engineer must be provided. Your sponsors should read through your application and initial the competence statements to indicate that they have agreed with the information you have provided. They are signing the form to indicate that they believe you suitable for consideration as a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers If you have any difficulty in obtaining the support of sponsors, please do not hesitate to contact us.
