3 delivered HSC VET (TVET) for schools 2006 Extract from the Board of Studies Business Services Curriculum Framework Business Services (120 indicative hours) Purpose The purpose of this course is to provide students with basic skills and knowledge as preparation for entry level employment in an office environment. Course Structure This course addresses a selection of the units of competency in Certificate II in Business (BSB20101) and must include BSBCMN211A. Course Requirements Students must attempt units of competency totalling between 108 and 132 indicative hours according to the indicative hours listed below. Students must complete a minimum of 35 hours of mandatory work placement. RTOs can select from the following units of competency in designing a 120 indicative hour course. Depending on the units of competency undertaken the course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to: understand Occupational Health and Safety requirements in business organisations which is essential for employees without managerial or supervisory responsibilities. work effectively within a commercial or business environment including identifying the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers and conducting business in accordance with the organisational goals, values and standards. organise and complete own work activities; obtain feedback on work performance. communicate in the workplace; gather, convey and receive information; complete routine written correspondence. work in a group environment; promote team commitment; cooperate and support team members. select, use and maintain business technology; effective use of computer software to organise information and data. collect, process, store and maintain workplace information and its systems; maintain filing and record systems. process financial transactions including petty cash, invoicing and banking in a business environment. greet clients and determine their needs in accordance with the organisation s requirements. receive and distribute incoming mail; collect and dispatch outgoing mail; organise and send electronic mail. prepare and produce of short routine letters, notes, memos and records using word-processing software. create and use simple spreadsheets and charts through the use of spreadsheet software. Work Placement Students must undertake 35 hours of work placement per 120 indicative hours of this course. Part-time paid work may fulfil part of the work placement requirement. 6 -delivered HSC VET (TVET) courses for schools 2006 Extract from the Board of Studies Business Services Curriculum Framework Business Services (240 Indicative Hours) Purpose The purpose of this course is to provide students with a range of skills and knowledge suitable for employment in a business office environment and also for university and other tertiary study. Course Structure This course is based on twelve units of competency in the Certificate II in Business (BSB20101) and two units of competency from Certificate III (BSB30101). Course Requirements Students must attempt all units of competency and complete a minimum of 70 hours of work placement. An external written Higher School Certificate examination will be conducted for this course. This examination will be optional. Students undertaking the course will nominate during the HSC year whether or not they will undertake the external written examination. 10 delivered HSC VET (TVET) for schools 2005 Business Services Extension (60 and/or 120 indicative hours) Purpose The purpose of extension courses is to provide students with the opportunity to gain credit towards additional qualifications in Business Services. They are available to all students undertaking Business Services (240 indicative hours) but are intended especially for students with particular interest and aptitude in this area. Course structure These courses are based on selected units of competency from Certificate III in Business (BSB30101). 60 indicative hour courses are accredited for a total of one Preliminary and/or HSC unit. 120 indicative hour courses are accredited for a total of two Preliminary and/or HSC units. Students may undertake more than one extension course. Course requirements 60 indicative hour courses: students must attempt units of competency totalling between 54 and 72 indicative hours according to the indicative hours listed in Table 3. Students must complete a minimum of 14 hours of mandatory work placement. 120 indicative hour courses: students must attempt units of competency totalling between 108 and 132 indicative hours according to the indicative hours listed in Table 3. Students must complete a minimum of 35 hours of mandatory work placement. RTOs can select from the following table of units of competency in designing 60 and 120 hour extension courses.
