Containing the future
Antwerp, the fastest route to Europe

Of the 190 million tonnes handled at the Port of Antwerp in 2008, some 100 million tonnes was containerized cargo, representing 8.7 million TEU. As such, the Port of Antwerp continues to cement its position as the port of choice for containers in Europe. The Port of Antwerp, however, is much more than just a point of transit for cargo. As the second largest port in Europe, the port serves as a vital link in the supply chain and an important strategic partner to the industrial sector. With a wide range of multimodal initiatives, the Port of Antwerp is ready to meet the challenges of the future. seamless service central inland position HigHly productive and flexible workforce state-of-the-art terminals competitive Handling charges multi-modal Hinterland connections major cluster of reliable forwarders congestion-free capacity an environmentally conscious port MARKET SHARES HAMBURG LE HAVRE RANGE (IN PERCENT, BASED ON TEU THROUGHPUT) Rotterdam Antwerp Hamburg Bremen Le Havre Zeebrugge Over the last few years Antwerp has realized the strongest growth in market share and has become the second container port in Europe. *Based on first semester Source: Port statistics
Capacity for the future With the largest array of specialized handling services in Europe, the Port of Antwerp offers room to move but also, and most importantly, room to grow. Congestionfree lanes, an annual capacity of some 15 million TEU and several high-profile investments in extended, state-of-the-art infrastructure complete the picture of a port that is ready for the challenges of the future. The Antwerp container port also owes its outstanding reputation to its highly-trained personnel and exceptionally high productivity (between 32 and 35 crane movements per hour per crane). Together with some of the lowest terminal handling charges in Europe, the Port of Antwerp guarantees cost-effective and efficient services to help customers regain their market position in preparation for the future. The Port of Antwerp makes continuous investments aimed at further promoting growth in container handling. In the Deurganck dock for example, the technological innovation of container handling, has reached a new height. Offering the latest advancements in services and infrastructure, the Port of Antwerp continues to reinforce its position as an important turning plate in the chain of international trade. 6 The best way There are many factors that make the Port of Antwerp the port of choice for containers in Europe. The most important, however, is its location. Located already 80 km inland, the port s strategic position in the heart of Europe translates into huge time and cost savings for its customers. Antwerp offers the shortest, fastest and most efficient onward connections to the European mega market with more than 60% of the continent s purchasing power within one day s trucking. excellent productivity port port stay (Hours) average call size (teu) gross moves/hour Antwerp Hamburg Rotterdam As one of the top league ports in the world, the Port of Antwerp combines congestion-free lanes, state-of-the-art infrastructure and above all the capacity and flexibility to move large volumes of cargo quickly and efficiently. Security is also ensured thanks to ISPS certification at every terminal and an integrated electronic data exchange system. 750 km 500 km London 250 km Berlin Antwerp Paris Madrid Antwerp, the most central port in Europe.

The fastest way By road Antwerp lies at the crossroads of no fewer than 6 major international motorways offering fast, efficient links to France, the Netherlands, Germany and beyond. The port itself offers easy access to the road network with no location ever more than 1 km away from a motorway. By barge The Port of Antwerp is also serviced by an extensive inland shipping network offering direct links to major industrial centres in France, the Netherlands and the German Ruhr region. Antwerp s canal network offers abundant capacity, transporting over barges every year. By rail Every quay at the Port of Antwerp offers direct access to an extensive railway network for the rapid transshipment of many kinds of cargo. Some 220 daily departures offer fast, efficient connections to the European hinterland while shuttle services link the port to any destination in Europe, from Portugal to the Baltics; from the UK to the Black Sea. Structural investments such as two new rail terminals and a new rail tunnel safeguard the port s connectivity well into the future. The port is also serviced by several new rail operators. With the new railway infrastructure, connecting the port network to the central network, the railcapacity will be expanded by 30% or from 360 to 470 trains per day. Short Sea/Feeder With around 280 short sea departures every month, the Port of Antwerp is part of an extensive short sea and feeder network servicing over 150 destinations throughout Europe and Northern Africa. Direct connections with deep sea liner services guarantee fast and above all cost-effective handling along with savings of up to 60% on conventional road haulage. 9 The easiest way Antwerp s unique central location and range of specialized services have earned the port a solid reputation for local and hinterland distribution. Boasting around 400 European Distribution Centres around the port, the Port of Antwerp is an ideal base for primary and secondary distribution. The Port of Antwerp: an important strategic partner. european distribution centres: belgium as preferred location (considering costs, transport system, accessibility, supply, labour and know-how) country Belgium The Netherlands Hungary Czech Republic Poland Source: Cushman & Wakefield In addition to the 540 ha of covered warehouse space available within the port, the port also offers a variety of efficient and flexible handling services designed to adapt to fluctuating volumes. The port can pick and pack to pallets or containers, rail containers and even barges as required, as part of a next day or even same day service. In-line sequencing also maximizes the effectiveness of your logistics operations. With the widest choice of quays, handlers, stevedores and logistics partners, your distribution operations are in good hands at the Port of Antwerp.
