3 Consistent reel length was what the machine tenders needed to deliver. How? Length is proportonal to reel diameter Reel diameter was measured with a yardstck for 95 years BUT, there was variaton due to small changes in paper thickness We converted to what matered: Measurement of actual lineal footage Insensitve to variaton in thickness Reduced annual scrap by $400,000 It took a lot of change management to get it done
4 The mass of 500 sheets of paper of a certain size, based on the type of paper (writng, newsprint,.) Measured real tme, contnuously, with a sensor that travels back and forth across the machine How is the sensor calibrated?
5 A reel typically took about one hour to fll 60,000 feet long, 200 inches wide A sample of 5 sheets, 5x5 inches square, was very accurately weighed Sample size: % of the reel We could never accurately adjust the machine sensors We converted to what matered: Accurate rewinds of actual customer reels existed, ted back to the mother reel Customer paid by mass, so we had calibrated, certfed scales Samples >90% of the total reel were then used to tune machine sensors Signifcant $$$ savings in feedstock to the machines It required signifcant change management
6 What makes a good measurement Relevant to the atribute of interest Direct vs. inferred Repeatable Stable Utlizes a sample size as large as possible Immune to environmental efects and disturbances In the case of custody transfer measurements, linkage to a recognized, traceable standard Change isn t easy

9 Measurements from barge to vessel use rulers/soundings to infer the volume transfer of bunker fuel, and an assumed density, to determine tonnage Density (and other quality dimensions) is validated via a tme-lagged sampling methodology Sample size is ~ % of the load* Coriolis meters directly measure what is of interest: real time mass flow and real time density * 1 liter sample of a 1500MT load

11 Micro Moton embarked on a bunker fuel test program with Exxon, Victrol, Maersk and NMI in Roterdam and Antwerp Phase 1: Load Exxon refnery via Micro Moton meter installed on Victrol Barge; verify barge tanks with custody transfer certfed meter Phase 2: Dispense bunker fuel from Victrol Barge to Maersk Laust via Micro Moton meter Phase 3: Use Micro Moton meter installed on Maersk Laust to measure incoming bunker fuel Conducted testng under both ideal and non-ideal operatng conditons
